If Ger Donnelly gets the chair, I presume there will be a competition for vice-chair, does anybody know who will be running for this?

Well folks we have a new Co Chairman, Ger Donnelly defeated John McMahon 104 to 49. Mick Gorman new vice chairman. Only other item of note was that John McMahon was furious with the article in this weeks Nationalist by "The Supporter". I'm off to buy the Nationalist now to see what all the fuss was about.

Can anyone upload the article ????

That said I have had a number of issues over the last number of years with this local paper and columnist in particular having a free pop at the local Gaa scene with anonymity guaranteed.  He/She has written numberous articles making little of my own club and questioning certain players/managers.  Surely the author should be made put their name to their comments.

I know some would say this forum is similar however this person is getting paid to do these columns and I would imagine has a bigger audidence then our forum  ( plus we have administrators )

He or she has an editor. I remember being blamed by Richie Whelan for him losing his position way back when. It's easier to look outwards than look inwards. A bit deluded to blame a 55-vote defeat on an article in a newspaper that sells something like a couple of thousand copies, and none of those north or very far west of Newbridge.

The outgoing chairman made his comments about the nationalist article before the vote was taken, he was very dignified in accepting the result.

How long is the secretary's position allowed to be held for?? Is it outside the 5 year rule as I'm thinking the current one is there quite a long time or is it because it's a paid position it differs??

I don't think there is any time limit on the position of county secretary. Frank Murphy has been Cork's secretary for over 40 years at this stage.

No bother as far as I can remember has challenged or looked for election for quite a while. Just curious. Cheers KK

Fair play to him, that doesn't really surprise me. Did anyone manage to find the article?

Yes, read the article. Very critical of John McMahon. I don't think it would be fair to upload it (apart from having to type it out).
It's really irrelevant now and I can't see how it would have influenced the vote to any extent.

I'm just interested in reading it given he felt the need to reference it... I can imagine the criticism, but criticism is fine if it's fair comment and I would imagine there are a number of very obvious issues that were brought up.

Not looking for it to be typed out though!! I'll find it somewhere. They don't seem to be updating the sport part of the website anymore.

I have read the article. It all looks like fair comment to me, reflecting the issues. It certainly isn't personal. It's relating to his time as chairman, a public position in one of the most public organisations.

Best of luck to John, he is sure to be involved in some way, be it with Kildare or Naas.
