Best wishes to Cian O Neill for the future. He was passionate and committed as Kildare manager. When he took over Kildare were in a sad sorry state having been relegated to D3 and trumped by in excess of 20 points by Dublin and Kerry. During Cian's tenure I think Dublin beat us by 9 points, 7 points and 15 points. Not where we wanted to be but this was a much improved performance from before Cian took over against a much improved Dublin team. He also deserves huge credit for not playing any U20 last year and leaving them available for the U20 team, unlike Kerry of course. Ok things didn't go to plan always and like us all I am sure he has some failings but I think his statement is a testament to the guy and I wish him every success.

Kerry are challenging for an All-Ireland and you want them to leave out players like Clifford and O'Shea to play with the U20s? Rolling Eyes

You can win all the underage titles you want, but if it doesn't improve the seniors, which in our case it hasn't, it means nothing.

Former Kildare manager Cian O’Neill has been appointed coach of the Cork senior footballers.

O’Neill, who is employed at Cork Institute of Technology, will join manager Ronan McCarthy and selectors Gary O'Halloran and Sean Hayes in the Leeside think-tank as the Rebels aim to build on their impressive 2019 championship campaign. The fact that he previously coached arch rivals Kerry adds an extra layer of interest.

“We are delighted to welcome Cian on board given his extensive experience as former Kildare manager, as a former coach to a number of senior intercounty teams in both football and hurling and of course, as Head of Department of Sports, Leisure and Childhood Studies at Cork Institute of Technology.

Good move for him. Less distance to commute and possibly more suited to being a coach than a manager. Hope he does well.

That's Kildare's last two managers involved with Cork senior footballers
