Happy to see the panel being trimmed a bit can't see management getting any value from training around 50 lads and as has been said the league is vital this year and i think we have a fighting chance.... Bring it on

Team for tomorrow's match v Carlow:
1. Mark Donnellan (Maynooth)
2. Kevin Flynn (Celbridge)
3. Eoghan Bateman (Naas)
4. Liam Healy (Moorefield)
5. Johnny Byrne (Allenwood)
6. David Hyland (Athy)
7. Con Kavanagh (Sarsfields)
8. Tommy Moolick (Leixlip)
9. Paul Cribbin (Johnstownbridge)
10. Chris Byrne (Clane)
11. Paddy Brophy (Celbridge)
12. Liam Power (Raheens)
13. Jack Robinson (Cloherinkoe)
14. Daniel Flynn (Johnstownbridge)
15. Jimmy Hyland (Ballyteague)
Bench includes Aaron Masterson, Neil Flynn, Mick O'Grady and Adam Tyrell.

Great to see Paul Cribbin back. Hope all his injuries have cleared up.
That full-forward line looks very exciting!

Has to be Neil Flynn. Jimmy hasn’t done anything to date in senior football that would merit him being picked over Flynn.
Whilst he was excellent in u20 action I fear his lack of height and physicality will come against him.
Robinson has the height and speed. The physicality will come with game time.

I’d have Neil Flynn in my team as well as he’s a reliable free-taker. Looks like Robinson has the edge over Jimmy Hyland at the moment. Dan Flynn is a shoe-in at full-forward. Chris Healy and Paddy Brophy would be other options in the full-forward line.

The half-forward line might be the most competitive. If everyone is fit, we’d have Paul Cribbin, Fergal Conway, Niall Kelly, Paddy Brophy and Adam Tyrell competing for 3 places. Padraig Nash and Tony Archbold will also pushing for selection. Hopefully the competition for places will improve performances.

Midfield will also be hard to win a place. We have Kevin Feely, Aaron Masterson and Tommy Moolick as traditional midfielders with Paul Cribbin and Fergal Conway as the more mobile options. Feely and Paul Cribbin would be the pair I’d go for.

It’s great to have Johnny Byrne and Kevin Flynn back and they would be my choice at 5 and 7. David Hyland has played all the games at centre-back and while he’s great at setting up attacks, I’d wonder about him defensively. It will be interesting to see where Eoin Doyle plays when he’s back. Con Kavanagh has done well in the O’Byrne Cup so he could be an option. Keith Cribbin is on the bench today - he’s been a great servant for Kildare.

The full-back line is the hardest to read at this time. Eoghan Bateman and Liam Healy have played all the O’Byrne Cup games so they must be being strongly considered. Mick O’Grady is on the bench today so I’d say he’ll take one spot. Peter Kelly will be another option. I wonder would they try someone like Eoin Doyle or Kevin Flynn in the full-back line?

Mark Donnellan is playing his 2nd match in the O’Byrne Cup today so I wonder does that mean he has the edge in goals? He’s got the experience but is prone to the odd mistake. I’d like to see Aaron O’Neill get a run as the first choice number 1.

Hard to know what to make of that Carlow match. We were totally outplayed for the first 55 minutes and only scored 4 points. We made a few substitutions and out scored Carlow 1-6 to 0-0 in the last 15 minutes. Hard to know how much was due to Carlow tiring but Aaron Masterson, Adam Tyrell and Daragh Ryan made a big difference and David Hyland was very good as well.

We have an awful lot of work to do before the Fermanagh game as we looked off the pace for most of the match.

I've rarely seen as bad a 55 minutes from a Kildare team as I saw today. Out thought, out fought, out muscled, out footballed by Carlow. Anyone wandering in would have assumed Kildare were the Division 4 team for virtually the first hour. One point from play (in the first minute) in the first half. If that is the level at which we play in three weeks time, Fermanagh will beat us by a cricket score. Depressing stuff.
Still no tackling; three frees from 14 yards missed - two wide; one lobbed to the Keeper. Standing off men while Carlow ran through us and should have led 1.10 to 0.4 but for a woeful miss one on one. Why it took 50 minutes to press up on the Carlow kick-outs I'll never know. Poor, poor fare. As of January 4th this a team devoid of passion and ideas. I hope the next three weeks bring about a sea-change but, on today's evidence, I doubt it.

In hindsight that defeat to Longford was a good thing. Otherwise we would be playing Dublin's 3rd team next week and on the evidence so far they would probably beat us. Disappointing to see teams like Carlow and Wicklow build up big leads against us so easily, dread to think what Roscommon would do to us if that happened.

Writing them off after the O’Byrne cup has to be the most Kildare thing ever 😄
Have a day off will ye. The results are all over the place, Longford beat us, we beat Wicklow... Carlow beat Wicklow, we beat Carlow. None of this matters.

Certainly not writing them off, we won 2 out of 3 so not a bad return in that competition. The worry for me is the way teams get a run on us and build up big leads. That worked out really well last time against Fermanagh didn't it???

Not writing them off but definitely underwhelmed - four points in almost fifty minutes, one from play. Yes, we finished with 1.6 without reply but, with all due respect, we were playing Carlow.
Had we played like that against, say, Armagh or Roscommon or Cavan we'd have been annihilated.
And forwards failing to score with three fourteen yard frees - two wide; one lobbed gently to the keeper was atrocious.
Carlow cut through our defence for a goal in the second half and but for a shot blazed wide would have led 1.10 to 0.4.....and this is a Division 4 team. It's as early in the year for them as it is for us.
Our tackling (when it happened) was still inept
Fingers crossed but I remain unimpressed by the displays against Longford; 35 minutes against Wicklow and fifty minutes against Carlow....all lower division teams

Jack O'Connor said on KFM after that they had a tough hour and three quarter training session on Thursday which could account for the sluggish performance against Carlow.

It was funny at the end of the interview Tommy Callaghan told him that Fermanagh will be more defensive than Carlow and he'll have to make sure the team are prepared for it. Jack seemed a bit taken aback by being advised what to do. He is an All-Ireland winning manager after all!

To be fair every man, woman and child knew last year how Fermanagh were going to set up apart from our Manager who sent the team out as if he had never seen them play before. No harm in forewarning them.

Maynooth lost 2-14 to 0-9 to St Mary’s Belfast. Daniel Courtney, Jason Gibbons, Mark Hyland, David Malone, Jimmy Hyland, Padraig Fogarty and Jack Robinson played for Maynooth.

DCU beat Garda College. Kevin Flynn listed for DCU and Aaron Masterson for Garda College. Conor Hartley listed for UCD who beat Ulster University.

We had a few lads on the IT Carlow panel who had a great win at IT Tralee

That's a fair trimming for a team with lots of intercounty players. Coupled with Kildare's shit O'Byrne Cup performances, you'd have to worry a little.

I wouldn't share some posters optimisim of the league campaign ahead. It's going to be a difficult year for JOC.
