Golly how does one analyze that game, usual slow start 1-3 to no score after 10 mins and losing Dermot E after 3 mins, no one near him when it happened, and yet we went on to win by 8 points, a 14 point turnaround
Our new full back line had it's first serious test and were all over the sea in the 1st 15 mins but as soon as we got to grips with midfield and stop the long balls in by forcing Meath out wide and lateral they started gaining confidence and again Peter Kelly and Hugh McCrillan had fine games and in fairness to McLoughlin I thought he was harsh done by for the penalty with the ref making no allowance for the conditions, he kept his head high and put in a fine shift.
Our half-back line suffered a lot and was our weakest line no surprise Callaghan, Bolton and Flanagan were all taken off but Foley and Flaherty Snr showed really well and Foley really snubbed out the threat of big Joe.
I doubt many outside of Kildare would of heard of Darrel Flynn and Hugh Lynch before the championship but Flynn's star is rising and Hughie put in a great performance, nice and tidy and a great work-rate.
Our half-forward line, when Johnny missed that kick in front of the posts, I really thought it was going to be one of those days but the man is a legend, what an engine definitely a contender for poty, O'Neill worked relentless and his footballing intelligence for Smiths goal will give McGeeeney a wry smile as he is really drilling into Kildare about taking the right option.
James Kavanagh, Alan Smith and Eoghan O'Flaherty are the future of Kildare football, these three will only get better, Flaths jnr and Kavanagh were excellent today.
Julie Davies has them fit, McGeeney again is cutting his cloth well, made the decisions early to take of players and all subs made an impact.
Just a mention to Meath supporters who provided great support today, if it's any consolation young O'Rourke and Graham Reilly never gave up and epitiomised everything that is good about Meath football, they have very bright futures...

What fantastic performance. I looked at in UK on Setanta online cheering and shouting as if I was in Croker. I would love if the likes of James Kavanagh ( the best I've seen since Pats Dunny and Mangan ) could appreciate the joy and life they brought to Kildare folk up and down the county My father is 88 years old and we were in tears as we discussed this match this afternoon. No one outside Kildare could appraciate the impact these players have had on the Kildare people. What a fantastic August of possibilities lay ahead.

I'll put my hand up and admit I was critical of Eoghan Flats after the Leitrim game and said he wasn't up to the standard required at this level. However after the last match in which he was very good and today when he was immense I'll take it all back, the courage and confidence of the lad to take on those two 45s and score. He's a true star and has a great future ahead of him.
If James Kavanagh doesn't win an All Star this year especially after the coolness he showed in taking his goal well there's no justice. As for Johnny Doyle well I think he's a shooin for one also.
The alround performance of the team today, including the substitutes, was just breathtaking. What a day for Kildare football and for all the people that follow the county. Magical.

Superb.. The best I've ever seen as a Kildare fan. It's different to 98 in that this team has an abundance of quality scoring forwards. I firmly believe we're the best team left. They're going to take some stopping.

interesting point made by Com Keys and really sums up the performance yesterday -
"From the 12th minute on, however, Kildare won the next 63 minutes or so by 2-16 to 0-9 with another performance of power, relentless running and conviction in the last third of the field. "
Still a little a bit hoarse today, but still in cloud 9, great win and a great overall performance.. However I still think they have more to offer.. I do think the next game will be tough, but not going to worry about that yet..

Superbe performances all over the field- Eoghan Flats, Peter Kelly, Hugh McGrillen, Darryl Flynn, JD, Jimmers and Paudie...but we are more than a 15 man team, the subs that came off the bench yesterday were classic! Well done to Geezer and the entire management and background team because that was the best Kildare performance I've seen since 98

Missed bits of pieces because I had to do a few messages around the house, I missed JD's fluffed kick, but it didn't effect him, obviously.
Excellent in the second half, stood up well with the loss of Dermot. Great anticipation in defence, all looked like sweepers the way they were reading it.
As an Armagh man, i'll be praying for you to see off Down next time out, and, of course, i'll be predicting a Down win seeing as I gave Monaghan and, cunningly, Meath as well.

the state of Dermot's knee in that picture looks rotten - but it's been going in and out all year, hopefully it'll right itself, Down have a big midfield and while Hughie was brilliant yesterday, you'd obviously love to have the big man.
Brilliant performance. I always rated the manager, I always rated the team. I didn't think they'd win an All-Ireland. I do now.

I think they are a greatly focused team who play for each other - you can see that shining through!!! I'd say that they are only looking ahead 4 weeks to the next game...
I also hope Dermot is ready for the day!! I do rate this Down team, but I think we will beat them in a high scoring game..
