| Very Sad to hear this news, when it broke last night I was really taken aback, He acheived so much in such a short life both on and off the pitch and was an inspiration to so many, As one tribute said, he worked so hard and achieved so much that he graduated from this life so early. RIP Jim | |

| Yes it's a very sad story, full of inspiration but tinged so badly with sadness. I was very sorry to hear he had finally succumbed to his illness. For some reason it has brought the whole Dermot Earley thing back in my head. 2 men of similar stature RIP | |

| His story is simply remarkable and it is such a shame that his life has been cut short. One of Ireland's greatest ever exports - the fact that he is going to get a state funeral in Australia says it all.

| An absolute gem of a man, and what an athlete, my thoughts and prayers are with his family in Australia and Dublin. Anyone lucky enough to have met Jim is feeling a little empty today. Rest in Peace Big Man. | |

| I do think that his comments were misinterpreted. He shouldn't have said them at this particular time. The 'nasty' description is really a bit of a back-handed compliment. He was a hard bastard on the pitch. And he's not special just because he fought cancer. People are doing it all the time. But the thing is that everything in his life marked him out as a man who took on all challenges face on. And the thing is, while he was fighting cancer, he was saving his club and continuing with the youth charity work. He was attending public engagements two days after having tumours removed from his brain.
Akermanis loves the drama, he's a bit of a Hook or Dunphy, he has fallen out with every club he was at and a lot of team-mates. He just realised here that his comments came off all wrong.
You're dead right about Sam Stynes' comments. Full of class. | |
