| R O Giollan and Paddy Woodgate from the 21s played against wexford, the rest were the lads who haven't seen much game time in the league thus far but I don't know if they're in or just in for a trial. | |

Surely to God the GAA could appoint a referee that is not from Ulster and not from a county that is also playing in division 2. That leaves choosing a referee from a possible 24 other counties.

| Maybe I'm naive but never understood the thing about referees. I'm we're going on the nearby affecting neutral, I always thought it would be in a positive sense for the county further away given rivalry and so on; and to back that up I'd suggest we've failed to get rub of green in major instances it was often a Leinster referee. But I don't think any referee trains that hard for a lack of glory and plenty of abuse to be biased. They may simple be no good, but that's a different matter. If you're goo enough the referee's decisions will only affect the margin of victory, not whether you win. | |

| Very true Tommy - you'll notice in Jim McGuinness's columns he virtually never mentions the ref. As you say, if you have the players and the game plan, the result takes care of itself. Honestly you'd get a pain in your face listening about refs.
Incidentally different argument but RTE is getting absolutely pasted in the quality of analysis by Sky. Not saying Sky deal is right or wrong but Jim McGuinness and James Horan v Pat Spillane is a bit like pitting the Dubs against Leitrim.

| Being without both first choice corner forwards a serious blow - I was blowing the trumpet earlier in the year about there not being enough forwards in the squad. Anyway... Healy in one corner and Eamon Callaghan in the other? Heavey ooked decent last day in fairness although game was long over at that point.
Re free taking, does anyone else have a feeling that free takers were better off the ground in "old days"? It'd be interesting if someone did comparative study... I suppose Dean Rock might suggest otherwise.

| Dean rock tends to use both styles for what suits each situation.. all quality free takers probably do. | |

| Know Niall, sound fella. He did have a difficult game v Limerick in Newbridge last year. As TK says, ref won't determine who wins or loses. A draw would be a good rexult with Clare to come at home. | |

| Really mature performance. Found a way to win without a forward scoring a point from play until the 63rd minute. A good few leaders emerging. Feely brilliant. Awful Down team mind you and we had the ref in our pocket but we'd have lost this game 2 years ago for sure. Great to see Donnellan take man and ball punching a high ball near the end. Thought he could have caught it mind. LOL. | |

| great win given the 3 scorers so far this season missing. Terrible conditions. Niall Kelly should be wrapped in cotton wool till the summer!! Not conditions for him. Feely O'Grady Doyle exceptional. Leaders. Win next week and we could be up with a game to spare. Who'd have thunk it!! |

| Great win considering Down were on a bit of a roll and we were missing 3 corner forwards. They way Down played probably helped us - they would have probably caused us problems if they attacked us more.
Last year we never really looked like scoring goals and this year we can't stop scoring them. Obviously things they've been working on in training are coming off in matches so fair dues to the coaches for that. We're not conceding many goals either even though we've ridden our luck at times. Fortune favours the brave so we've deserved a few breaks.
Kevin Feely has been a real leader for us this year and it was great to see him kicking over the frees off both feet. What a talent!
A win against Clare will see us promoted. Hopefully there will be a big crowd in Newbridge next week to cheer them on.
