SFL Div 1 - 4 KICK OFF tonight.....should be an interesting year as it seems the county team wont keep us too busy in 2024....time to get out and support our clubs
Who do we fancy to win the various leagues this year ?
Any clubs going to cause any surprises.....
First time in a while we have 3 Intermediate clubs in Div 1.

I took in Celbridge and Moorefield. Decent enough game. Browne is a serious talent and should be around the senior setup. He would be an addition. Conway the best player on the field and you;d think he still has something to offer.

Conway is usually one of the most dangerous players on the field. Hard to know if he could still offer something in white but I doubt he is interested. Gave a huge amount to Kildare in his career. Browne should be in with the Kildare panel.
I saw Kilcullen v Suncroft. Not my greatest decision.

3 games into the leagues, Div 1, Celbridge and Athy are struggling a bit but early days.
St Kevins, Monesteravan and Rathangan not really setting the world alight after promotion from Div 3, is the step up too big ?
Ellistown bouncing back well after championship relegation last season
Lots of one sided games in Div 4....

Division 4 is very poor, 7 teams is bad enough however most teams will only get 4 matches in the first phase.
Maybe make divisions 2 & 3 only 10 teams and have 10/11 teams in division 4.

Don’t see the step up from div 3 to 2 being too big, in Monasterevans case they’re very much in a rebuilding process having lost all their fire power to the lure of Australia. I’m sure there’s plenty of clubs in the same boat.

That was the format before this year! There are teams in Div 4 who should consider taking Kildangan's route of playing in the reserve leagues until they build back up to a point where they can compete in first-team football. Then you can begin to reformat the leagues in a way that makes each one competitive.

Early days but really good going by Ellistown. Top 4 made up with 3 junior teams and Miltown of course only up from there. Div 4 a bit poor looking, some clubs praying they can get out and compete at a higher level I’d say. Might be worse next year if a few intermediate teams end up in the league - could be plenty of walk overs then !

I think Ballymore have a number of lads gone travelling aswell.
In regards to Div 4, Athgarvan, Rathcoffey, Cappagh, Ballykelly and Castlemitchell need to be given consistent games, between Byes, walkovers and hidings they are going to struggle to get consistent runs of games unless they go looking for challenge games.
Ardclough while fielding are getting hidings Rheban seem to be struggling to field a team

I really do think some teams need to look at taking the Kildangan route as the previous poster mentioned. I know it's a pride thing for these clubs too but if you need to rebuild then it's a good way to do it. When they are ready they can reapply to come back in. I can't imagine it's too easy trying to hold onto players knowing you are going out to get a hiding every week. The first walkover of the year was last weekend and it won't be the last.

They might be losing a few more players soon and it isn't the lure of Australia

There's a few lads who have been great servants to the club who are coming to the end of there careers who will probably pack it in at the end of the season

Wouldn’t anyone coming to the end of their career after giving years of service be entitled to retire.

Isn’t anyone 35+ entitled to retire if they’ve been great servants. Stupid response trying to start rumours

Same as last year but draws for winners/losers groups will be done after the preliminary matches are played.
