Man had ear bitten off in Tyrone brawl

The PSNI have launched an investigation into the crowd brawl which took place during the Tyrone league final last Sunday in Dunmoyle after a man was said to have part of his ear bitten off during the trouble.

The brawl erupted in the stands during Dromore's clash with Carrickmore after violence on the pitch spread into the stands towards the game's conclusion, which resulted in numerous injuries to spectators.

The Ulster Herald newspaper reports that a Carrickmore supporter had the bottom part of his ear severed after it was bitten and the man, who is believed to be in his early 40s, was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital where surgeons were able to reattach the severed part of the ear on Monday following a one-hour-and-a-half procedure.

It is uncertain if the operation will prove successful and those close to the injured man have said that he has been deeply traumatised by the incident.

Police began their investigation after a complaint was made on Tuesday night and spokesperson said that enquires into the alleged result are ongoing.

As vocal as club fans are in the county, I don't think we'd be that bad... Rough up there or what!!!!

Disgusting behaviour. I can't imagine that kind of thing ever happening here in Kildare.

They don't hang around in Tyrone...

TYRONE’S GAA County Board has issued bans totalling 452 weeks in response to hooliganism at a recent match between Carrickmore and Dromore.
While details haven’t been made public at this stage – individuals will be informed by their club secretary - the punishments are among the most severe ever handed down.
Trouble broke out at the end of the match in Dunmoyle with fighting on the pitch spreading to the stands.
One spectator had part of his ear bitten off in what has been described as a ‘mini-riot’.
Members of both clubs appeared before the CCC on Tuesday night. They studied video footage of the incident.
The County Board said in a statement: “After a very thorough investigation involving the full co-operation of both the Carrickmore and Dromore clubs the Tyrone CCC have issued proposed sanctions to both of the clubs arising out of the incident.”
“The proposed bans total some 452 weeks. The individuals concerned from both clubs will be informed by their club secretary. In addition both clubs received the maximum fine under the Tyrone Bye Law and other playing sanctions have been proposed.
“The sanctions proposed by the Tyrone CCC are amongst the most severe ever issued by Tyrone GAA. We thank both clubs for their support in the investigation and are confident that lessons have and will be learnt from the unacceptable scenes in Dunmoyle.”
