Another Kildare performance by NUI Maynooth yet again! Very worrying year , after year with so many Kildare seniors on show.

There were three who played no? Of which two are brand new to the panel and probably won’t be close to the match day team.. sigerson is a funny competition. It can absolutely unearth real talents, but it’s certainly not the be all and end all if a big name or a player with potential doesn’t win it.

My point is that over the last 10+, maybe since class of 2010. NuiM has had countless Kildare players and gave never produced a decent run, maybe one year.
Kirwan, Sullivan, Burke, Luke Killian and Paddy Mc. You'd hope NUI M with a strong Kildare base could produce winning teams and a pathway to the senior team
A big university in the county, where alot of the players go, IMO should be doing better.

The team in 2012 was a very strong team, which featured plenty of future inter county players, Shane Connolly, Tommy Moolick, Conor Brophy, Sean Hurley all Kildare, Davey Dalton & Mickey Newman Meath, Sean Denvir & Peader Og O Griofa Galway & James Calliff Louth. Unfortunately that year in the final they ran into an all star DCU team in the final that were able to bring on the calibre of David Kelly, Michael Murphy, Ron Hennelly.

I’d also say that with Sigerson, you have some of the best players from the best counties in each team, it’s a huge standard, but very different to county and shouldn’t be used as a predictive tool.. I’m pretty sure Kevin Feely wasn’t starting in midfield for DCU when he was there, to give an indication of the calibre

This is bit silly. Having gone to maynooth, as most will know its the smallest university out of the 6. DIT was actually larger at one point, most likely still is. Yes there is a strong base of kildare players, but kildare aren't exactly a top team full of top class players. The Western universities and colleges will be full of Galway, Mayo and even Northern players. Likewise will southern Cork, Kerry etc and Dublin tend to get a mix of all over the country plus they're own. So relatively speaking Maynooth are never going to compete at that level. That being said its an overrated competition, always forgotten about come the start of the National League.

A real glimpse into what Darragh Kirwan can do. He was up against a serious defence and playing in a hurricane.
