Damien Hendy retires from inter-county football

Might have only been a bit player in McGeeney's time but was a great servant during some lean years in the middle of the last decade. I always think we'd have won another Leinster title in 2002 if he hadn't gone off injured during the second half. The backs seemed to fall apart once he went off.

Hopefully his new role with the u21s works out well for him.

But agree KK very dedicated servant over the years.

Definitely was a big loss in 2002 final when he was forced off after a bad tackle. Should never have been moved from 6 to 3 as the fullback role was totally unsuited to his style of play and seemed to affect his confidence.

Good luck to him - a very loyal servant of Kildare GAA.

BTW that u21 role he was ear marked for was all bullsh1t - dunno where the rumour started

Best wishes to Damian on his retirement .He may not have been the most technically gifted player ever to wear the jersey but what an example of maximising your talent and behaving as a role model to young players.

Damian IS involved with the 21's, some off our lads were asked into the trials, he was the one who made the calls.

Thanks Damian for all the years of giving everything to the white jersey.

BTW as far as I know is is a selector fro the u-21 team

Don't know. Clubs will be asked to select players for trials.

That's the way it should be Taibi no more of this "Only a select few can go for trials", give everyone a chance never know could unearth some raw talent.

That the way it was last year, 3 or 4 lads were sent from my own club and none of them made the panel.

There is definetly a lot of promising young players around which is good.

I reckon scrap this oh only 2/3 for each club asked trial.

Any young lad who reckons he is good enough should be given an opportunity to impress

Plenty of talent Leinster should be the minimum for the amount of talent in this age bracket a lot of promise but at the end of the day promise is nothing without determination..

would end up with about 500 lads fro trials then.........nothing worng with clubs sending in few players,normally its the clubs 21s management that decide it so im sure they no best

There was a trial last Friday. Dunno if there's another one. What about the teams involved in the U21 finals?

If 500 lads turn up so what the Management could unearth some young lads who are just suited to the county scene just like Hugh Mcgrillen ?
