Yeah lovely pitch and nice compact stands but the down side is the "Grassy Banks". Thats what would hold it back. Nice to see the county team moving around anyway.

No need for the smart 'go support the Dubs' comment Taibi just stating my opinion that I think this idea is a non-runner. It's important the county team's home games be somewhere central. Do you think Athy people would be happy if Kildare built a new ground in Kilcock and played all their home games there?

Not that much difference in travelling time between Athy and Newbridge, however it would require a lot of work to bring it to a decent standard, especially the pitch.

Ah lads it's 20-30 minutes extra on a journey that already takes 40 minutes from anyone coming from the North of the county on poxy roads as it is.
Feck it like just get the main house in order has to be a priority. Conleths is in need of serious upgrading but Athy would be going from scratch in reality. That's planning costs, architects and all that before a brick is put down.

Didn't Athy used to be one of the offiicial County Grounds, along with Newbridge and Naas for some reason.

The reasons it got demoted are more than likely still there along with more.

Sorry guys have to disagree, Athy not suitable at all, at least in Conleth's there is room for development (and improvement) no room whatsoever in Athy for any building work.

On another point why can we not have a couple of benches around the ground in front of the spectators selling tea and coffee instead of everyone trying to squeeze into a fucking container with one door, Athy showed last Wed night how easy it was to do.

I'd have thought there's room to continue the stand in Athy around both goal ends, leaving the grass bank to be developed?

Newbridge already has a much bigger stand & large terraces.

Athy as now would probably have a 2,000 limit. (Grass banks cannot be used !!!

So sorting the barriers on the terrace, the loos & exits in Newbridge for possible 100,000 as opposed to up to €10m to bring Athy to 8,000 seems a simple choice.
