| There will be plenty of interest in the role, you will always want to the man after the man and it's not a vocation but a paid gig. Our stock is at it's lowest but the only way is up and the production line is healthy, 3 Leinster minor finals and 2 u21 finals in the last 3 years and probably favourites for the u21 next year, don't forget our minors hammered Dublin out the door 2 years ago. An infusion of youth Neil Flynn, Mark Sherry, Paul Mescal, Wayne Fitzpatrick, Paschal Connell, Luke Flynn, Cian McMonagle, a returning Daniel Flynn, move aside some foot soldiers Hugh Lynch, Daryl Flynn, Gary White, Mikey Conway etc and all of sudden under new management you'd have a young vibrant squad and as long as you retain the leadership values O'Neill, Bolton and Leper can bring but develop Eoin Doyle, Niall Kelly, Moolick, Cribben as future leaders you can have a serious bunch of footballers.
Financial support is an issue, warm weather training, weekend camps, S&C, psychologists, dieticians, surgeries, compensation for time off work, these are just some of the factors that cost money and are needed to prepare teams to compete at the top level. People talk about the tactical side and Ryan was at face-vale pretty incompetent but defensive systems take hours of practice and drills on the training pitch, something warm-weather and weekend camps provide, camps also help bond teams instill a commitment to the cause. With the GAA Troika on our case it does affect ability to compete it can't be denied but the right man and it has to be a Kildare man should be able to galvanise the county supporters and the county sponsors. If there is a will and a hunger to succeed money can be found but we all need to be united clubs, CB, supporters and sponsors.
To me Cian O'Neill is that man supported by strong Kildare men as selectors. He has been involved in success wherever he has gone, Tipperary Hurlers, Mayo Footballers and Kerry footballers, the kicker is those counties aren't afraid to spend money. Cian also worked with a lot of our underage footballers and knows the club scene, his own Club Moorefield are most successful club this millennium in Kildare, we need a manger use to winning clutures to drive standards and to drive players.

| A manager with a track record as a manager, not a number 2, the job can no longer be a learning ground for up & comings. The underage potential is there, the role needs somebody with experience to guide, nourish & develop it in the right direction not somebody who is going to make loads of mistakes because they are learning....... plus he'd have to be from Kildare..... | |

| Where does James Horan live? It its Mayo then its not feasible to expect him to commute surely, the expenses would be to much. You would hope O'Neill would want to manage Kildare one day but he has a good job with Kerry dealing with the best players in the country. Cant see him moving any time soon unfortunately but it would be a huge lift for the county to see him take over. | |

Great news if true. Horan would be class but not a hope he would come to us.

| Cian O'Neill works in Cork ( C.I.T. ) - I make that a 264 miles round trip. Even 'if' he was interested is it really possible. | |

| James Horan is a manager in Coca Cola in Ballina. Work commitments were probably a factor in stepping down from the Mayo job when he did.
I don't see Glenn getting it and I don't understand the attraction of McStay to be honest.
Cian O'Neill would be great but as said above he would be commuting from Cork and he is unlikely to walk away from Kerry at the moment anyway.

| 2 hour trip on the motorway - family in Newbridge. Has commuted Limerick to Mayo, no mean commute. Cork - Killarney is not a light spin either.
CV is not bad
Inter-County ~
2013 - 15: Kerry Senior Football Coach - 3 Munster Champions - 1 All-Ireland - McGrath Cup Champions
2012 Season: Mayo Senior Football Coach - All Ireland Finalists - Connacht Champions - Div. 1 League Finalists - FBD League Champions
2008-2011 Seasons: Tipperary Senior Hurling Fitness Coach - All Ireland Champions 2010 - Munster Champions 2008, 2009, 2011 - Div. 1 League Champions 2008 - Waterford Crystal Champions 2008
2006 & 2007 Seasons: Limerick Senior Football Coach & Trainer - Promotion to Div. 1 2006 - League Finalists 2006
Club ~
2009 Season: Newtownshandrum (Cork) Senior Hurling Coach & Trainer - Munster Club Champions - Cork Co. Champions
2010 Season: Monaleen (Limerick) Senior Football Coach - Limerick Co. Champions
Other Sports ~
2011 Season: UL Huskies Basketball (Limerick) Fitness Coach - National Cup Champions - Superleague Champions
If Kerry win the All-Ireland perhaps the attraction of a three in a row, the first in 30 years but looking at that CV he won't be a coach for much longer, he will be a manger and Kildare surely should be the one.

| Pretty he sure Cian quit the Mayo gig because his back was in bits and the travel didn't help. At least he was quoted that in a paper.
Maybe NUIM could set up a Director of sports performance role. They've been broadening their horizons with football, rugby, swimming and golf of late.

But Coca Cola have plants in Drogheda and Athy - where he spends a lot of time. A lot of a managers time is spent analysing and preparing at home. Time on the training field is minute compared to it. Cian O'Neill would be on my list too but he hasn't exactly been involved with a team starting from a low base. He's been with the cream of teams in both codes. Why should we aim low? If we do we could end up with Luke Dempsey or similar |

| Would like to see James Horan come but don't think it's a possibility. One of the reasons he quit the Mayo gig was due to family commitments. He has 4 daughters and a baby son. Doubt he'd start commuting this far under the circumstances. McStay may be more likely to though. | |

| Boarderline your knowledge of anything to do with kildare GAA is as bad as our performance against Kerry on Sunday. Again you just proved you haven't a clue what your talking about and I know it shouldn't but it annoys me because your making a statement which is 100% incorrect. | |

The way to deal is to not acknowledge. The kick is in the rise and when he won't get the rise, he'll be gone.

You would have to take it on face value but James Horan has said that he gave up because of work commitments and the family having been sacrificed enough. He has also said he would never manage another county team and if he goes back, it would be with Mayo. The cost-cutting in the past five or six years will have a big impact on who you can get. I'd say it might have to be local. That's purely a guess.

| I hope the county board realise the importance of getting the next manager decision correct. If they don't, we face the prospect of squandering some of the best underage talent, certainly in terms of winning, that the county has ever had. This goes wrong and all the good work at underage will have been down the pan. Finances will probably determine that we are fishing in a small pool but hopefully something can be done to give us an appointment that can lift spirits both within the group of players and as importantly the supporters and would be commercial sponsors.

| If we are looking at a local manager who are the likely candidates? Obviously Murphy is one and his service to Kildare, considering he is from Cork, has been brilliant. O'Neil is a future prospect but probably to soon for him now. Strange that so few of the 98 team are involved. Ryan, Lacey and Rainbow seem to get mixed reviews from some supporters on their style of management. Which leaves us with the retired players of recent years like Earley, Sweeney and JD. Are they too closely linked to some of the older players on the squad to be really effective? Maybe a mix of some of the players above could do a good job, there is no doubt they were all great footballers who really contributed to Kildare on the pitch over many years. The last thing we need now is a journey man manager and there are a few of them about! | |

| We need a manager who has a proven track record of success, with club teams at least. Wouldn't like to see a mix of retired players being selected now if they don't have any previous managerial experience. Some would probably be too close to the current players as you say.
I know money is going to be a big issue when it comes to the pool we have to draw from but would there be some Kildare men out there that may not be that well known outside of the county who have achieved a lot with clubs they've managed before?

| McGeeney had no managerial experience and came so close to reaching an AI final a few years ago. It might be desirable but not essential. A vision on how to play the game and a proper back up team is more important imo. | |

| If someone has a proven record of managing successful teams that won titles though they're obviously doing something right. I just think we're at a crossroads now and no disrespect to the names mentioned already but choosing someone who hasn't been involved in team management before, regardless of their abilities as a player, is a big risk. | |
