| Ridley Park believes JR was "fall back option" post McGeeney. Do we need reminding that our the Co Chairman told county board meeting that he had an initial "short list" of 15 which was whittled down, by degrees, until we came to what was the obvious choice? Do we need further reminding of the members of this high powered selection committee - it might even have included the current Co Chairman? I don't know JR from Adam but I was convinced from his first post match briefing he was a waffler and nothing but a waffler - my views have not changed . The real question is; who can we entrust to find his ( imminent) replacement? | |

| A historical fact , yes ...... But do you mean he was the only viable option? McMahon and his team pleaded that they embarked on a painstaking search. This seems to have included a phone call to Glen to tell him he was the wrong man and no phone call to McStay who had publicly expressed interest . I just hope our next selection process is similarly comprehensive, leaves no stone unturned etc in the best traditions of the Kildare GAA executive . Important to involve Martin Whyte this time - our decision to reward his talents with seat at the Leinster table gives us a huge advantage in terms having a better view of what might be available to us on the national stage. I'm off to Mass to say a few prayers ..... | |

| If Kildare go to Division 3 then the Banty be the man to get. He be top class to get the team spirit and moral back. He good to take a team so far when they on the ropes. But then have a real top act to replace him in two years to get to the absolute top | |

| He also needs a GAA job. It be the best one available to anybody aspiring to be a manager. Its so inviting a job that a manager looking to make a wave should be taking job first and chat money later.Kildare remind me of Monaghan. They sacked BBanty McGeeney style as a division 1 team in 2010. A did came in, and two years later, hey presto, a one way ticket to division 3. Players took the initiative, sought and picked the next manager, and hey presto, two league titles in a row plus a provincial and definitely punching their weight and more again. Bottom line is Kildare are a descent side, And a good choice of manager to restore pride, and get the focus going again is all they need. | |

| Even if we get God Almighty as our new manager we'll still struggle unless there is profound change as regards how we organise, administer and finance the affairs of Kildare GAA. Ger Donnelly may yet show the leadership we require but he needs to get moving. The most important attribute of a leader is to surround him/herself with talented people who can deliver on the strategic goals which have been set. There are serious gaps in the talent pool currently available to the Chairman. JR is a dead duck and if we get relegated ( we're 1/6 for the drop with Paddy Power) then a new management regime will be needed for the C'ship. Surely it would make sense to seek the views of JD, Dermot, Roli and Flanno not so much on who is needed but WHAT is needed in terms of how best to approach this. I'm not aware of any discussion ( rational or otherwise) at county board level on how underage talent is nurtured - traditionally someone is given a "Youth Officer " label but has no designated function/ reporting responsibilities. Our finances are and have for years been a disaster area. By all accounts we spurned a number of opportunities which led to the departure of the previous Club Kildare executive and aside from imposing a requirement on clubs to sell tickets for a draw, no imagination has been shown when it comes to balancing our books. We have many advantages as a county - population, support base, geography, large national and international businesses. But do we have a plan, an ambition,a strategy to succeed? Are we happy to trundle along , relying on Croke Park handouts to survive, having the most dilapidated ( embarrassing ) county grounds in the country. If we continue as is we won't just be heading to Sligo etc for league games next year, we'll be able to look forward to London the year after. I think we probably have a reasonably talented group of players at our disposal but we can't be sure until we get ourselves organised on, and off, the field. Ger, we're waiting!

| I have said it before the County Board is being run the same way as a poorly organised small club setup and mentality for 2-3 years . . . | |

| So only a matter of time rather than if now. Surely there is someone who can make us competitive again. I'm not asking fro miracles but just a set up where the players are getting used to their best ability.
Cian O' Neill is my obvious no.1 choice but can't see him taking it. Tony McEntee was mentioned and is highly regarded. Bryan Murphy possibly but I think he is better staying with the U21's until Hackett needs to move up a grade with this minor group.
A candidate standing out in Kildare looks a forlorn hope at the moment.
Whoever it is needs to be able to define how to play their set up to the players and make the hard decisions if the players are not doing what they want.
Lastly do we trust those in charge to make the right decision....

| If Carlsberg did management teams, unfortunately they don't.
Big decision by the chairman, he needs to pull out all the stops and make the right call, because another disaster like Ryan and you can turn off the lights.
No pressure so. | |

| I wouldn't trust the new chariman to go off on a solo run o find the new manager, I believe a committee needs to put in place at the next county board meeting to find the right men.
A committee of Syl Merrins (went and got McGeeney), Johnny Doyle and one more (possibly Dermot) should be charged with finding the new manger, the chairman doesn't have the clout to attract the type of name we want.
The names I have mentioned above should be able to attract the right calibre of person to the job, I would hope, the chairman would give us a journeyman like Tomas O Flaherta I would fear.

| With a rumoured debt of 800k and a season of div 3 games in front of 300 loyal fans coming up, finance will dictate our new manager. I expect a Kildare based management team with local knowledge of the club scene to be installed. The financial restraints will impact every aspect of preparation limiting managerial aspirations If management structures are restricted by finance in a county where success is demand by a vocal support I can't see too many people willing to chance it. I hope I'm wrong but I feel the CB are going to go for the cheapest option as directed by coke park. None of the previously mentioned potential managers would fit that criteria

To be fair who are we to complain about financial hardship. The poor lads up the road are rightly going mad that the taxpayer didn't take a hit when they offered up 6.5m for Nama property. We don't know how good we have it.
