| He took the brunt of many a criticism over the years but many managers saw something in him so he was doing something right along the way
Thanks for your service Fionn if indeed that is to be your last appearance in white.

| Who are the potential 6 still injured from last season?
I'm guessing P.Cribbin is still out. Pretty out of the loop lately so not too sussed and my brain has totally buried the 2018 year for the county team so couldn't name a single injury that occurred during championship time.
EDIT: Kevin Flynn another?

| Jack O'Connor: "Daniel Flynn is back as is Niall Kelly. Johnny Byrne is back with us. Paul Cribbin is back training, but not making full contact yet as he is still getting over that shoulder injury from this season, but in general we have the vast majority of the players we want and are interested in."
If those four could hit some real form that'd be the foundations of a decent season.

| God if we can stay clear of injuries I am extremely excited for the next year. Robinson and Archbold starting. Kevin Flynn back!!! Bryne too. Add in other strong names to the fray (midfield and the backline) and jesus - great squad.

| O Neill in goals has been on the cards a while now. Interesting that JOC puts him straight in first game. | |

Yeah really looking forward to next year a lot now for no logical reason at all. Potentially very strong half back and full forward lines there for Saturday and with more established players to come back as well it's a good position to be in.

| Very excited by that lineup, it's probably a little irrational but hope springs eternal. Delighted to see Hyland at centre back, O'Neill in goal, and the full forward line in particular. Good to see Liam Healy and Shea Ryan back too. | |

| Particularly delighted to see Healy and Ryan in: defenders who are actually good at the basics of defending. Love the look of that team and panel in general. | |

| The change in attitude will be the test for O’Connor. Will he instill a harder edge on the team, or will they remain passive onlookers? It’s last chance saloon for some of them. Blaming the manager won’t work this time. Let’s hope for a successful 2020. | |

| It's a guarantee of precisely nothing, but the blood, sweat & tears at underage over past decade is bearing fruit in terms of squad depth.
Like, we could actually have Ben McCormack, Mark Demspey and Brian McLoughlin in this squad as well. Anyway... we live in an imperfect world & there's plenty to get excited about. I'm so thrilled Daniel Flynn and Jack Robinson are on the panel.
In terms of defence, Shea Ryan, Johnny Byrne, Tony Archbold and John O'Toole are exactly the kind of operators we've been crying out for: tough tackling, athletic hard bastards with huge engines.
But we all know the question marks... Can we finally sort out the perennial gap in the centre of our defence? (Hyland an interesting experiment, he played there at minor).
Can we attain that resolve & composure you need in the closing stages of tight games? And can these lads finally show the mental toughness they showed at underage when they wouldn't back down for any f****r?
Time to find out. | |

| Couple of players played themselves out of the league panel today. Pluses were Kevin Flynn, great to see him back. Niall Kelly, Neil Flynn and Nash. Robinson tried hard, got on a mountain of ball but snatched at a few chances. The more games he plays the better heifer. Moolick’s physicality improved the team. Brophy appears to have slimmed down and kicked a score nicely. Early days. But the goal keeper...... | |

| Donnellan is like Mignolet when he was at Liverpool. Good shot stopper but will ultimately cost you in the end with a horrible mistake. | |

| O’Neill should be our first choice keeper next year, no question.
Few good individual moments today but overall abject mediocrity.
In addition to weaknesses I listed above we have another significant one: we really struggle with masses defences.
We’ve blitzed Fermanagh a couple of times but they really did a number on us last year & they well set up exactly the same way again.
Another item on a sizeable to-do list.

| Bit of a disjointed performance which is not that surprising considering there were so many new players.
The biggest positive for me was the return of Kevin Flynn who was excellent. I think playing centre back suits David Hyland as he is good at setting up attacks. Whether he is good enough defensively to play that position remains to be seen. Jack Robinson and Padraig Nash played well in patches but in general we should be shooting much earlier (like Darragh Kirwan did for his point) rather than taking too many passes as we did so often. Another player I liked the look of was Davy O’Neill who looks to have good pace and intent.
I thought we tried to kick pass a bit more in the first half but it didn’t work too well in the conditions. Surprising we didn’t try one forward. Definitely it’s something we should be trying to add to our game.
Lots to work on but we won’t give up hope yet.
