What is the format for the Junior Championship
11 teams
Open draw for one group of six and one group of five Round robin within both groups with each team playing each other
#1 in both groups advance to semi finals Second place finishers play third place finishers in quarter finals
The remainder enter the 'Junior A' championship From the group of six: #4 and #5 enter Junior A semi final, #6 quarter final From the group of five: #4 enter Junior A semi final, #5 quarter final
An easy fix would be to have a seeded draw based on league positions as was the case last year, if I recall correctly, with more qualifiers for the knockout stages from the higher tier group. Not sure why they went back to an open draw.

2 in a row champions being backed up by young lads that have only won a Hogan Cup and a 20s All Ireland. Let’s be honest - if it was any other club there’d be no accusations of ‘could be bullied’ Haven’t been found wanting in the physicality stakes at any point in the past 2 and a half years.
Naas are no strangers to the "dark arts". They have a good number of players who tend to kick out, trip or get in a sly dig while trying to promote that they are too nice and young & need to be protected
Mind games begin

Kildangan pulled out so I think their hand was forced to reset. Not sure what you do with the Junior in honesty, maybe split the intermediate to from 16 to 12 and 12. Add in 4 weaker sides from senior to Intermediate A and 4 strongest from Junior to Intermediate B. If you have 4 championships what do you do regards leinster and All ireland comps? Not an easy fix. That leaves 12 senior, 12 Inter A, 12 Inter B and the Junior.

How would this naas team stack up against the moorefield team from a few years back or the Sarsfields, Clane teams of the 90/00s. Imo I don't think there within an arses roar and I actually think the senior championship is at its weakest point in a long time. That moorefield team had some real hard fuckers Daryl Flynn, David Whyte, ross glavin, Kenny Duane, frost treacy, roli the lonergans , I don't think naas have that calibre of player at the moment but I could be wrong

Eh one of those hard fxxkers was just a plain tramp. Unliked and actually hated by most players from most teams. Â A real cheap shot merchant.
I agree with you that the naas team is not quite at their level just yet. But you can  only beat what's in front of you. But they are doing what that moorefield did. They are at the business end of league and champ every year.

Ben and Shea played for sash. Ben was excellent you`d worry for sash if they didnt have him. Eoin Doyle and Paddy Mac played for Naas. Alex and Kirwin to come back in.

This Naas team has been in a leinster final already and im sure you know how young they are still, with county calibre players coming through to the standards of jack mckevitt and ryan sinkey in 8 years time we`ll see and will be able to proper judge them against the likes of the moores of the 00`s but right now we have to say they are looking like they`ll be just as good. A leinster title might be tough they`ll need luck with the likes of kilmacuds signing power and number of members, the dublin clubs are on a different level but they could win as many county titles as the moores team did.

Naas are an excellent side, but still very much early days when it comes to comparing them to other sides from other eras. McDermott, Kirwan, Beirne are all in their early 20’s. Funny enough, their leader and key player is in his early 40’s, Eamonn Callaghan has been some stalwart and it’s incredible he is still playing at top level of Kildare club football.

Ardclough shouldn't be let near another senior competition again. Have no sympathy for a team who continues to play until their chance is gone then don't fulfill the fixtures, thus rendering score difference pointless.this is about the 4th year in a row this has happened with both league and championship. Credit where credit is due at least the likes of Kildangan always turned up!

Felt second-hand frustration for the Milltown players/management when I saw that news, who no doubt built summer plans around championship fixtures, as well as match officials and anyone else inconvenienced. A waste of valuable time for everyone involved.

The way the senior draw has been mapped out in advance means there are some teams who may feel it is better not to win the prelim game this year. Probably better to do the rest of the draw after prelim games are sorted.

I suppose there's an element of pre-determination there to make it easier to plan fixtures, or to minimise the chances of teams meeting again in the prelim quarter or quarter final.
If that's not the case then there's no reason at all for it to be mapped out before a ball is kicked in the first round.
The loser of Celbridge v Raheens will more than likely end up in a group with Confey, Eadestown and Clogherinkoe and would definitely fancy their chances of topping that group and going straight through to the quarter finals.
Likewise Ballyteague will more than likely end up in a group with Kilcock, Athy / Moorefield and Johnstownbridge with Maynooth going into a group with Sarsfields, Athy / Moorefield and Naas if they win. Regardless of how the Athy / Moorefield game goes Maynooth would have a better chance of topping a group with Kilcock and JTB in it than one with Naas and the Sash in it.

Ok; the preliminary draws are made. We’ll have eight winners and eight losers. Can anyone remind me how the group draws are made from there?

“Really Unofficial Kildare” has a brilliant graphic up on his Twitter page with everything laid out for Senior, Inter and Junior. Sorry I’m not able to post it here but his Twitter page is really worth checking anyway!
