sure didnt he get sent off in our last semi in 00? that was very harsh from what i can remember!! ugh dont want to think of that game again actually

One of the worst decisions I've ever seen in Croke Park was the decision to send off John Finn in that match. (Not quite up there with this year's Leinster Final though!)

He hit Michael Donnellan a shoulder on the Cusack Stand side of the field. It was marginally late but there was absolutely no malice on John's part as the ball was there to be won. O'Mahoney was over on the Cusack sideline and he went mental at the linesman and then told Donnellan to stay down - Dwyer was furious over this according to Owen McCrohan's biography of him. The referee made no allowances for the monsoon like conditions that day and sent John for an early shower.

The game was level at the time but Galway went on to kick three points in injury time - two coming from Donnellan frees IIRC.

That for me was the most gutting day ever following Kildare. Everyone knew it was probably the last shot that Kildare had under Dwyer. I'll never forget walking back down to Connolly for the train home absolutely drenched wondering what might have been had Nuxer not gone to Chicago.
