| Portlaoise again for Kildare v Wicklow
From Hoganstand
21 October 2010
The Leinster Council has announced its provisional dates and venues for next year's senior football and hurling championship games in the province.
In football, provincial champions Meath will open their campaign with a quarter-final against either Kildare or Wicklow at Croke Park on June 5. The game will form part of a double-header with Dublin's clash with either Laois or Longford.
Should Dublin progress, all of their games will be played at Croke Park because of its large capacity, but the majority of games will be played at provincial venues.
In hurling the only game to be played at Croke Park will be the Leinster final. In the first round, Antrim will travel to Portlaoise to take on Laois, while Galway will play Westmeath or Carlow in Cusack Park or Dr Cullen Park. Dublin will have home advantage for their clash with Offaly.

| Double header in Portlaoise when Laois have been given a home tie on the same day. You couldn't make it up, there won't be to many neutrals there that day.

Should be big crowd at it. All Ticket i say. I would assume the local yokels will be in early to cheer on the Mountain men. If we win and I assume we will be on first I'll be giving Glenn plenty of encouragement. Should be quite an afternoon. Sam, I presume you won't be serving Squirrels.

| We'll need big support that day, we know who Laois will be shouting for in our game. | |

| The one problem I've always had with playing in Portlaois has been the traffic in and around the town before and after the match, against Wicklow though at least most of their fans will probably be travelling from the Stradbally / Athy direction to the match, traffic shouldn't be too bad once on the motorway.
A quarter final against Meath in Croke Park with a possible Dublin - Laois match on after us would make for an interesting day out. Imagining we'd be in the first match it'd give us plenty of room on the hill before the "crowd" gets in... although they probably won't be out in force that early in the year.
Can see ourselves and the Meath fans joining together as one on the hill again chanting "I'd rather be a paki than a Dub", only this time there'll be actual Dubs around unlike the last day.
Nearly be tempted to shout for Laois in the other match if they do get past Longford. Either that or just cheer every wide and bad tackle.

| Why wasn't a toss for home venue agreed to?
Surely Newbridge or Aughrim would have accomodated the crowd for a first round Leinster match. The atmosphere at these matches held at neutral venues is always a bit stale.
