Congrats Kildare Hurlers

Congrats to Kildare Hurlers on winning Keogh Cup for the first time with a 2-11 to 0-13 win over Meath in Trim.
Cannot forget about the "Small ball" !
Well done to manager Willie Sunderland and selectors Matt Dowd ,Dom McSweeney and trainer Bertie Cunningham.

Celbridge (7)and Confey(3) formed the backbone of team with a starting player from each of Clane,Coill Dubh, Naas,Ardclough and Loughmore.

Also well done to Niall Carew on his very impressive start as manager of Waterford footballers.

Not surprised by Waterford. They were underestimated hugely here - much like Carew, who had a big role in bringing about Kildare's monumental improvement from 2007 to 2011. It's only two games in February mind you but Division 4 is savagely competitive and down there, most teams are desperate to win every game; they're not looking to August/September. And I'm not being wise after the event; I said at time it was a very good move for him.

Anthony Rainbow got a win for Carlow in their only game too - so good to see the exports doing well. You want to have high calibre lads with experience in the trenches when the day comes that there's a vacancy in Kildare.

Absolutely delighted for the hurlers. That's pretty impressive given what happened a few weeks ago and the fact that they were the guts of two weeks twiddling their thumbs, missing training. A big step up now against Laois but at least they carry good form into it.

Great result for the hurlers, good boost for them heading into what will be a tough league campaign.

Hasn't been a great few weeks for them but they certainly looked to have but that behind themselves.

The match itself could was fairly even up until the final 20 minutes or so, a lucky enough goal from Divilly gave us the lead before Kenny got the second a little while later. Forwards played very well with a lot of scores coming from play, in comparison the Meath forwards must have hit twice as many wides. The backs did well once we got the lead in the second half and the keeper (McKenna) made a few good saves.

Hopefully the start of another promising year for Kildare hurling, be nice if their results were the main talking point and not off the field issues.
