Look at Leixlip, Maynooth, Kilcock and Clane. 4 big towns and they are all playing division 2 football. Confey couldn’t even fulfill a division 1 fixture. Round Towers have a big pick but their not up to much. The biggest disappointment by far has to be Athy. When they made the breakthrough in 2011 I thought they would dominate Kildare football for the next 10/12 years. Maybe arrogance has been their downfall? Look at Rheban having to give a walkover. Ardclough have given lots of walkovers the past few years. What’s happened to Kildangan? These are all important questions.

Athy are top 3/4 every year, made 3 finals won one and a league. Hardly the biggest disappointment by far when compared to everyone bar the Newbridge clubs. What have Naas done at senior? What have Leixlip done? Kilcullen, a decent size and perpetually a Division 3 team.

On the Ardclough situation there are number of key elements to consider. The first being that Football plays second fiddle to hurling in Ardclough due to the long term success of hurling in the Club over the last 50 years. Ardclough field two Adult teams in Hurling while they struggle to field one in football. Despite its geographic position, Ardclough still remains rural with no major development in the last 40 years. This means that the flow of young players to Adult level is not there. The reality is if you are young and living around Ardclough or its surrounds you are going to be drawn to play hurling. It has a high profile in the club and there is always an expectation/hunger for success. The other huge issue for Ardclough Football is that in the close vacinity you have Straffan, Kill, Celbridge all fielding football teams as well. Whereas as hurlers will come to Ardclough from all of the above and even further afield. Sometimes there are issues of demographics that with the best will in the world you just cannot resolve. However that does not mean you throw your hands in the air and give up.

Some soul searching to be done by some clubs tonight. Naas again prove , they are mentally brittle. Great win for allenwood. Celbridges easy game probably wont help them in the long run. Good to be up and running anyway

Some win for Allenwood. Didn’t see that coming. Great win for Round Towers too. Naas letting me down again. Junior and Intermediate is wide open. In senior it’s either Moorefield or Sarsfields.

Not at all surprised to see Allenwood win, perhaps not by as much but not a shock. TMH look to be waning as their main men get older while JD is getting younger it seems.
Good win for Towers, good side but probably lack a marquee forward or two to threaten the big boys. Horrendous penalty from Callaghan at the death to grab a draw.
Larries v Eadestown was an entertaining game, Fogarty and Paudie O'Neill were very impressive. Eadestown did well considering they were down to 14 for over half the game. That refereeing performance from Niall Colgan should be taught at refereeing courses.
Senior - Sarsfields Intermediate - St. Kevin's Junior - Robertstown

Would agree with everything except for Callaghan's penalty. Thought it was a fantastic stop by Robinson

Can't figure out how so many of these Johnstownbridge players are considered county footballers. Maybe county athletes would be a more appropriate description.

Great win by St. Kevin’s. They laid down a real marker today. Are Clane dark horses or are Monasterevan just bad? Pathetic effort by Johnstownbridge today. I watched the game on the stream. Men against boys. What the hell is wrong with them? They have so many good players yet they can’t get it right.

They don’t have so many good players, though. The two Cribbins and Doran are good. The rest are not. McNally and Hurley were passengers. Luke Flynn didn’t want to know about it. Those three are hugely over rated in Kildare.
Matty Byrne, Gary Whyte and Conor Hartley were outstanding. The latter will be called ‘Cathal’ for the rest of time after that commentary today. At least he wasn’t biased as Byrner, Chilly, Doyler and Smithy ran amok. He was great entertainment to be fair.
Clane looked very good, they look like a team for the future. Monasterevin were pathetic.

Agree on Clane, thought they looked well organised and big. Hard to gauge though as Monastervin had a really bad day. Clane look as if they could give the Newbridge teams a decent challenge in a year or two, if they continue to progress and learn.

Clane looked impressive, but really hard to know if they're that good as Monasterevin were so poor. Kevin's look to be flying again, and could take beaten.. Sallins could be there aswell.

Any truth in Rathangan having to forfeit their first 2 games in the championship due to COVID 19
