I get my gear ready on the Saturday night, With my flag and my banner rolled up tight, I like to take the bus, Trains are packed, I don’t like the fuss, It’ll take a while to get the group together, We’re on the hill so I worry about the weather, Ramble in for a pint of stout, And you’d never know who’d be hangin’ about, There’s a Dutchman playin a mandolin, And an Aussie asking about Paul Cribbin. And there’s Sam, Stonecold and JME, They’re still arguing about Fones’ identity, A few posters from Hoganstand, And they drinkin pints to bate the band. ...ain’t it grand...

We all set off for croker, up a road they call the N7 Visions of reaching dreamland, the lilywhite version of Heaven Johnstown Inn, An Poitin Stil-old haunts of days gone by, bring back memories of 98, bring tears to a dry eye.
Rolling up to Newlands Cross, the traffic is tail to tail. A sea of white- banners, flags and scarfs in search of the Holy grail. Squeeze through the Mad Cown roundabout, driving up past Kylmore brought on apocolyptic visions of what the day might have in store.
I visioned Hank McGrillen storming up the line JD sending over another point, Carney calling it sublime. Leper, Paidi and Morgan Flats hoovering up the dirty ball Shane "short arse" McCormack keeping a close eye on his stall.
The Tiger Peter Kelly keppin coulter at arms length Flynners down the middle bursting through with all his strength. Emmet Bolton on the wing geting caught fixing his hair, brings about a bollicking from Geezer, and a dirty looking stare.
I've a few more verses to go lads, and few more players to get through could be a very un productive day in work....again

An open top bus for Sam Maguire, It's been 82 years since we lit a bonfire, Before the Lillies could start to play, Geezer held them back, a half time delay Peter Kelly is quicker than Lord Lucan, Beside Mcgrillen with a dodgey bookin', White ribbons get tied to the cup, Johnny was shoutin "put it up" Kavanagh destroying Michael Shields, And Dermot was back to dominate midfield, Messers Bolton, the Mac Aindriú Eamonn Callaghan and Smithy too.

Cheers lads but to be fair it was Fear an Geata who got the ball rolling on it (also may have had the harder verses to do).
How about this one though to the tune of Delirium Tremens,
I dreamt a dream the other night I couldn't sleep a wink, On the Curragh tryin' to count the sheep and I was off the drink. There were flags hangin from lamp poles, and bunting in the street, And I was climbin up the walls, sure I couldn't get to sleep. I looked out from under the blanket up at the fireplace, Hughie Lynch and Dermot Earley were starin in me face. Suddenly it dawned on me I was getting the old DTS, When Geezer said he was startin McCreery, I knew he was takin the piss.
Goodbye to Antrim and Leitrim, to Derry and the Farney, To the Royals, Mournemen and Rebels, cos we are Geezers army. As I stood looking up at the Hogan, I could never figure out, How Johnny kicked that winning point from over 55 yards out.
Well I swore upon the bible Down's goal was a double hop, My heart was palpitatin' I was sure it was gonna stop. Thinkin' we were lost, I gave my soul to God to hold, A tenner for Saint Anthony, to let Smithy get a goal. I fell into an awful nightmare - got a dreadful scare, The ref was Martin Sludden and Coulter was diving across the square. Young O'Flats was sayin' the rosary as the ball carried in the air, Leper Callaghan was gargled and he singin' "She Moved through the Fair".
Goodbye to Antrim and Leitrim, to Derry and the Farney, To the Royals, Mournemen and Rebels, cos we are Geezers army. As I stood looking up at the Hogan, I could never figure out, How Johnny kicked that winning point from over 55 yards out.
I dreamt that Mr. Cooney had taken down his fence, Flan, Hank and Bolton were on top across defence. Then the train to Newbridge got delayed, late getting back, But Flynn and Paudie were scoring from every single attack. I dreamt Mick Foley started, he was well within his rights, And the president handing out medals to the winning Lilywhites. I dreamt Johnny was re-making his speech in the middle of the square, And Kavanagh going round spraying white paint in everybodies hair.
I dreamt of Niall Buckley and Christy Byrne too, This time we had won, and we did it all for you, I dreamt I was in a dugout with former captain Glen, 'twas then that I knew I'd never drink again.

If you could call having too much free time a talent then yes.
Might look into getting a hobby when the championship is over (in late September of course).

Another Christy Moore one to try and keep the mind off thinking about Sunday... Don't forget your Shovel. Simpler and not so much on the All Ireland theme ... anyway it helps to pass the time !!!
Nice one If _in_Doubt. Loved the lyrics for delirium tremens.
don't forget your boots if you want to go and play. oh don't forget your boots if you want to go and play. don't forget your boots if you want to go and play or you'll end up where you came from like the rest of us subbin', subbin', subbin'...
and don't forget your gloves and socks and shirt and towel and all. don't forget your gloves and socks and shirt and towel and all. mr mcgeeney's afraid you'll be to blame if you drop the ball. ("how's it goin'" "not too bad")
and I want to play in croker but I'll need to score some goals. I want to play in croker but I'll need to score some goals. yeah I want to play in croker but I'll need to score some goals. well there's one thing you can say...I know where I are goin'... ("any chance of a start?" "no" "okay")
and if you want to do it...don't you do it behind the goal. if you want to do it...don't you do it behind the goal. never seen a toilet on a football pitch at all. there's a shed up in the corner where they won't see you at all. ("mind your hamstrings")
brian murphy’ll give us a job, carrying water for the minors. brian murphy’ll give us a job, carrying water for the minors. and when we're finished he might get us a trial with the juniors.
now there's two thousand nine hundred and fifty-nine club players back here in kildare all trying to make their name by kicking ball and very few of them boys is going to get the call... i think that's terrible.
don't forget your boots if you want to go and play. oh don't forget your boots if you want to go and play. don't forget your boots if you want to go and play or you'll end up where you came from like the rest of us subbin', subbin', subbin'...

I wonder if anybody thinks we might be getting carried away with the Christy songs?
Brian Murphy will have more carriers than water bottles next year.
Here's one for Ordinary Man anyways,
I'm an ordinary fan, nothin's special nothin' grand, I followed Kildare everywhere they've played, We never won a lot, often got bet out the gate, But now our dreams have really grown, Now they say that times are great, Sam and Lilly have a date, They say this time he is comin home, When the whistle blows nothin' else will matter, The Rebels and the Mourne we hope to batter, We'll beat Cork and Down.
I never missed a game, not even in torrential rain, For 20 years I've been to the O'Byrne Cup, With a jersey and a flag, it seems so easy to forget, This team was not always on the up, The last decade was very sad, to see a team get so bad, But the Geezer from Armagh he won't let us lose, He still wears his shorts and uses tackle grids, And still he won't let them have some booze, We'll never lose.
Now it seems to me to be such sweet irony, Out of Leinster but still in for the Sam, But now my heart is in bits and I'm left here ticketless, There's too many fans in the fairweather, Every day I've tried to climb out of this mess, To find a ticket to see the Lillies play, At least they say it means that the lads are playin better, There was no problem months ago back in may, There's no tickets today.
And so condemned I stand, just an ordinary fan, Like thousands beside me on the hill, We watch them one and all, tryin to win the breakin ball, God knows they've all got the will, Now that we are faced with this final race, The battle for Sam intensifies, For as long as I live, I never will forget, You've given us some of the best days of our lives, You've won the Sam
