| Final is probably looking like a repeat of the league final - JTB vs CONFEY. Think Ballymore are the best chance of an upset. | |

| http://www.kildaregaa.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=480:ifc-semi-final-preview&catid=203:mens-news&Itemid=145IFC Semi-Final Preview IFC preview by Ronan Flanagan Down to the last four in Intermediate So, the two fancied teams in the Joe Fox Intermediate Football Championship were kept apart in last Monday’s semi-final draw. Competition favourites Johnstownbridge now have Ballymore standing in their way as they bid to book their place in the decider in two weeks. Meanwhile the other north Kildare outfit in the mix, Confey, are paired up with Ballyteague. Ballymore v Johnstownbridge The Bridge blew Straffan out of the water in the last round with every one of their men to a man winning every personal duel on the park. Ballymore saw off a good comeback from Eadestown to push on to the last four in less than comfortable fashion. In 2007 Johnstownbridge fell at the same hurdle to Ballymore, but this time out those youngsters have developed into real footballers with the likes of Brian Flanagan and Keith Cribbin being helped by Geezer’s guidance. They have also shown this year that they are not over-reliant on any one man. That day on '07 the Kavanagh boys were too hot to handle and, as the entire country saw this year, James is a class act who will take some stopping. His brother Eoin is also a major threat, while Tommy Archibald is looking very sharp. In a game that will be very close, it may be Johnstownbridge’s work ethic that will count for most. VERDICT:Johnstownbridge Confey v Ballyteague Early in the championship Ballyteague were looking very good and were being named as one of the dark horses. Now, as the season enters the business end of things, they know that to progress they will need to step up. Up front they have plenty of firepower in Seamus Hanafin and Gavin Smullen who will take stopping. Confey were flying all year in the league as they topped the Division 2 table and then carried it through to the championship to register four wins from four. They have lots of big men around the middle and Hugh Lynch’s elevation with the Lilywhites will make them even more formidable. It’s very hard to look beyond the men from up the hill who will be playing Division 1 football next year. Certainly Ballyteague will have to cope with their physicality on top of everything else. The Larks will more than likely have their wings clipped this Saturday. VERDICT:Confey The betting Well they say the bookies never get it wrong and they reckon it will be a repeat of the Division 2 Final for the Intermediate decider. Johnstownbridge are on even money with Ballymore and Confey both at 5/2. Ballyteague come in at 9/2. Confey 4/9 Draw 7 Ballyteague 7/4 JTB 4/7 Draw 7 BME 11/8 Outright JTB 1/1 BME 5/2 Confey 5/2 Ballyteague 9/2 *Prices courtesy of Cill Dara Betting | |

| Them boys in Cill Dara never cease to amaze me with their price making!!
They make JTB 4/7 for the semi final but only 1/1 for the outright, effectively saying they will be a 3/10 shot if they make the final!! No thanks!!
Either 4/7 is great value for this wknd or 1/1 is the worst value of all time for the outright. I'd go with the latter!

| all finals were played in st conleths last year. the junior was played a week before the intermediate and senior. the intermediate was played on a saturday with the senior the following day. usually the minor B final proceeds the intermediate with the minor A before the senior decider. | |

| Yeah. The Larks made all the early running, led by 1 point at half time i think and were only a point behind at the 3/4 stage. They introduced Gavin Smullen for the last 20 mins. but he wasn't fit and pulled up almost immediately. However, they left him on for the remainder of the game even though it was clear he couldn't run.
Confey pulled away in the final quarter with Gately the full forward registering most of their scores. Frank Barry got the goal with about five mins. remaining. The balls played into the Confey full-forward line were really good. Hugh Lynch played at centre back and although his marking was a bit on the loose side his distribution and work rate were good.
I thought the right half back (Joe Kehoe ?) was excellent throughout. Always seemed to be in the right place and never gave the ball away.

| in all fairness to smullen though he did come in for some treatment which i think he should of got 3 frees for and got none and that tipped the game confey went up scored after each bad decision confey were good though very good team 14 for them was out in front for everthing and well able to score | |

| May I be the first to congratulate Ballymore on their win yesterday. They played excellent in the second half and ruthlessly punished every one of our many mistakes! I think they have a great chance in the final against Confey and fair play to Jimmers - he was the master yesterday. I haven't always been his biggest fan but he is developing into a serious footballer!
For ourselves I think I speak for all our players and supporters that it was very disappointing end to our season. We never performed to anything like the level we can play and with all respect to the teams we beat in the c'ship so far I don't think the level of opposition prepared us for a tough semi final. Another year goes by and 2011 seems a long way away as it is for all other clubs except this years finalists. Can we please spare the choker comments and the soft underbelly etc. These c'ships are not easily won and we are a very young side and Johnstownbridge will win the Intermediate Championship - I'm just not sure when!!
Best of luck to all finalists in two weeks time!

| It's gonna be an interesting final alright. Honestly didn't think we'd beat JTB by that much. It was definitely our best performance so far this year. Although I'd rather we go into the final as underdogs we could be favourites now. It should be a close match. Up Ballymore | |

Heard he was meant to be going to Canada for a week or two, didn't hear it from the most reliable of sources though. If he was away for the county the final then he'd also possibly be away for the international rules matches, which would make you wonder why train with the squad if unavailable for the matches themselves?

| Hopefully Hugh Lynch will be away so. That'd be great for us if he was although I wouldn't believe it with the Aussie Rules coming up too.
Thanks Shortgrass | |
