| From Hogan Stand...Hopefully Bolton gets the nod.
Michael Shields will miss Saturday's first International Rules test against Australia in Limerick due to his involvement in the Cork SFC final the following day.
The All-Star full back, who will be available for the second test on Saturday week at Croke Park, has decided to concentrate solely on St. Finbarr's county final showdown with city rivals Nemo Rangers after helping them to a semi-final victory over Carbery Rangers last Saturday.
St Finbarr's manager Tony Leahy admitted that the former Carlton Blues recruit has been placed in 'an awkward position', but that he is focused on club duties.
"It's not often you get to represent your country and it's just one of those awkward things," he said. In fairness, the club is where he got his break and he's driving on now. It's hard on him. But that's the way it goes. There's no point in cribbing about it or anything like that. It's just about driving on now and getting on with it."
Shields' unavailability could lead to a call-up for either Kildare's Emmet Bolton or Limerick's Johnny McCarthy who were named on standby during last week's official squad announcement.
Ireland manager Anthony Tohill has already drafted Offaly's Niall McNamee into his squad due to the unavailability of Down's Benny Coulter for the first test. Coulter won't be available until the second test because of a hamstring injury.
It's understood Tohill is preparing to play both Leighton Glynn and Brendan Murphy in the first test, despite the fact both have important club games the following afternoon.
Glynn will be part of the Rathnew team that takes on Skryne in the Leinster Club championship while Murphy's Rathvilly are preparing to play Old Leighlin again in the Carlow SFC final replay which has been scheduled for Sunday at 3.45pm.
Down's Kevin McKernan will find himself in the same position the following weekend when his Burren club are due out in the Ulster Club SFC, less than 24 hours after Ireland host the Aussies at Croke Park.

| I'd say he could put McCarthy in as the first game is in Limerick and there is no Limerick players currently on the squad.
Fingers crossed its Bolton though, he deserves it.

| Johnny McCarthy is a deadly player in fairness, hard as nails, he'd be a good call, but it would be great for Bolton to make it - wonder would he hit Adam Goodes a sneaky dig though!! | |

| Having watched Ballymore V Confey on Saturday, I thought James Kavanagh was brilliant. He covered alot of ground and was involved in everything. He's a serious level of fitness. Considering the year he's had, another few weeks with the International Rules panel and if Ballymore go on a run in the Club Championship, he thoroughly deserves a rest until next April...... we don't want our best players suffering from burning out... | |

| Total nonsense of a game. Did Tohill think he was managing in an Ulster championship game. Everyone behind the ball allowing the Aussies to pick and choose how to come out of defence. Tactical suicide.
Didn't see much of the Kildare lads apart from a glimpse here or there(which was probably a good thing) , yet some players stayed on the whole game even though they were muck.
To many lads in that Irish squad there on name only instead of ability to play this type of game.
Plus the amount of chickening out and soccer passing was unreal. I pity the people who have paid tonight and for next week.
Just do away with it, nobody is interested in it anymore.

| You'll be the only one fone.
Also as a small point, TG4 do great work with different sports, but I had no idea what was going on tonight as regards rules because I don't speak the old Gaeilge that well. I can muddle through on the Football and rugby front because I know what's going on but tonight no idea. It made a poor game even worse I'm afraid.
