Darkhorse: Kildare if we find one or two more scoring forwards and are not decimated by injuries like we have been over the last few years. I def think we have the defence and midfield to do it.

| Be dark horses. Let the Dubs, Donegal, Kerry etc get limelight for a while as Kildare work and get some injured bodies back.

| The Dubs are always forever in the so called limelight win lose or draw , nothing new , and cant see it fazing us lately , part and parcel of been the medias asssociation darling in 2011 , it wont take long for the worm to turn and resume back to regular service Still think kildare can be darkhorses if and only if they find some gems / new blood to change their scoring ability , these players are in the county , time to drop a few lads not up to scratch who have been there 4/5 years , and give some new blood and potential a run , its gone stale , last year proved it , 4/5 seasons more or less the same progress , kildare have too bring in new blood and if that means been cruel/harsh on current player pool so be it , the players need to be given a reason to fight and prove their entitlement for there positions , the Dubs were forced to do it , lucky it paid dividends in 2011 and hopefully for the future. | |

really? way to spoil it for the rest of us!! Ridiculous statement imo considering there are about 3/4 teams operating at the same level as cork at the mo, kildare included. They currently have 4 players recovering from cruciates and had 2 or 3 retirees this year.

Sorry but I genuinely believe that Cork are the bet of 2012. I had a bit time off over Christmas and I have had a big bet at 7/2.
Obviously Kerry in Croker might be an issue and we are definitely in with a big shout. But it is the rebels for me all the way.

In fairness both O'Neill and Sheehan are mended/almost mended, though Goold is a major loss.

| It's David Goold, not Fintan that has the cruciate. He's a panel player and while a good player, he's not the type of cataclysmic loss that Sheehan and Goulding were, and not a major loss like O'Neill was. Fintan wouldn't even be that type of loss, and he'd be higher up ladder than his younger brother. | |

As it happens, I think it's a big statement to make that Kildare are at the same level as Cork.

Puling your leg TC, Cork will be close as they have class in all areas but like Kildare have been plagued by injury. I think this years All Ireland will be the most competitive for a long time. There are at least 6-8 teams who on their day can win it, the key is consistency of performance and who suffers the least injuries.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up, I thought it was Fintan. So who's the fourth Cork player with a cruciate|? David Goold is out, Sheehan and O'Neill are coming back, but wasn't there another Cork player with the same injury? For what it's worth, I think Cork are a more advanced version of Kildare at the moment. Both have excellent ball winners around the middle and superb athleticism, but struggle to punish the best teams on the scoreboard. But Cork have won an All-Ireland and beaten Kerry and Dublin in the championship, so you'd have to put them well ahead of us in the pecking order until we beat a major side (Cork, Kerry or Dublin) in the championship. If you gave me a grand and said I had to put it on who'll win the All-Ireland, I'd say Cork. I've just criticised their scoring power but if O'Neill and Goulding come back fit and in form they'll add to that immensely, and Donncha O'Connor is as good as what's out there on his day, barring Cooper. People forget how riddled with injuries they were for the Mayo game. So I suppose I agree with TC, but of course it's very hard to predict nine months in advance until you see what's happening with injuries and suspensions.
