| Hi guys, just a throw out question for ya. How much do you think a Senior club Manager in kildare should be paid for a year. take into account that if a club win a senior championship it brings revenue to that club in all aspects ie: supporters membership, sponsors,Club Bar celebrations, County board give money back to club for winning Championship, ticket sales, lotto, Leinster campaign ,and so on. Like the question is how much is a Championship worth to a club.....To me its in the 100 grand+ bracket. Club manager.....10 to 12 grand a year for a club Manager would seem ok to me for that kind of return, [Top end of managers around] This poster below seems to think it costs an arm and a leg. I think he is wrong quote from Overthebaroverthebar says ......whats your point....???? my post reads very simple and true, moorefield needed lots of money to attract this manager.....he commands a big fee to manage a club or county, which is common knowledge to anyone who has a serious interest in all that is GAA within the county..... | |

| 10 to 12 grand is a fair figure to be paying a manager IMO there Dido......not everyone has bars, play in county finals, leinster competitions or big sponsors.... | |

| Lads discuss things like an adult. I've edited a couple of posts to bring the discussion level above junior infants. | |

| You missed the irony there Dido... yes, most clubs using managers from outside the club pay and have been doing so for years and years. Former Irish soccer international, Paddy Mulligan coached Larries for a very short time back in the day and you can be sure he didn't do it for the pride of the parish! | |

| They should only get mileage and expenses. Nobody else gets money, why should managers? Hope the GAA and Revenue will be successful in their drive to stamp it out. | |

Old school and out of touch there 2000. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys!

| Ah there's too much of a black market industry going on with a pile of managers fluting around from club to club and county to county all on the gravy train, you know, the annual "managerial merry go round". Peanuts and monkeys me arse, how many big money managers have we had at different clubs in Kildare who did fuck all. Half of them, if not more, are only in it for the money. If we stopped paying them and they all pissed off, they’d be no loss.
I spoke about it to a woman I know from the finance department in Croke Park. They estimated that there's €20m per annum spent on managers and that's just in this jurisdiction. So when you'd add in the North it must surely be around €25m. That's utterly ridiculous but completely unsurprising as we all know the figures spoken about in some clubs in Kildare. You could send every county & club player in the country away for a holiday in recognition of their sacrifices and efforts with that €25m. Or you could spend it on any number of other things to improve the association, ranging from player welfare to physical development of grounds.
And of course they're ripping off every other citizen in the country by not paying tax on their exorbitant "fees".
In every club there's anywhere from 20 players to 100s (in say the big Dublin clubs) at adult level, a pile of volunteers running underage teams, and a pile of volunteers running the club. They will get not one cent. But the manager and, in some clubs, his assistants/coaches get a rake of money.
It's the single greatest travesty going on in the GAA at the moment. All the players, volunteers, club coaches and managers have jobs (or fair enough some are unemployed atm). Being involved in the GAA is not their job, it is or it should be their hobby. The only people getting paid should be the full time administrators and coaches.
Having said that, I have no problem with giving players, managers and volunteers (particularly county board volunteers) proper mileage and, where appropriate, compensation for lost wages due to devoting working time to the GAA.

| And another thing I didn't touch on there. If all the casual club supporters in the country who always put their hand in their pocket when there's a fundraiser on, knew just how much managers get; a good chunk of them would stop donating. | |

| The use of outside managers is usually driven by players who feel far away hills are greener and easier to blame when things go wrong. "fees" seem to vary hugely but when you have some coaches travelling big distances it's not going to come cheap. | |
