| Erica is a great leader and a fine footballer.
Did the cruciate a few years back but came back even better...
Broke her foot in the first few minutes of the All Ireland and played to the finish...
Really brave and the interview shows that....... Well done Erica.......

Fair play to her and she has landed a nice job with PSG too. http://www.the42.ie/erica-burke-interview-kildare-captain-3410660-May2017/ It's fantastic. It's a pity that this is still an issue in the 21st century but people like Erica, giving interviews like this, help to erode the stigma. What she did in the All-Ireland final last year was incredible.

| Echo all the above - brilliant interview with someone who is a credit to our county. Erica Burke makes me as proud to be a Kildare supporter as Lynch, Ryan, Buckley, Doyle and the rest - possibly even more so. Great stuff. | |

| No fan of the man but a 12 week suspension for what he did is absolutely ridiculous. He nudged an official, big deal. Of course the judge and juries on Twitter and the like want him hung, drawn and quartered. There's not too many players who wouldn't lose the plot the odd time if they were subjected to the shit he has to put up with in every single game. Brendan Murphy got one of the most brain dead red cards I've ever seen and he's no stranger to them either. Not a word about him though, probably because most of the half-wits commenting on the Connolly incident never heard of him.

| Rules regarding touching an official have to be rigid like they are in other sports. Otherwise any player can feel entitled to push a linesman if he disagrees with a decision. Where do you draw the line then on what is acceptable? The use of a finger, a palm, a fist or two hands? No sympathy for a multiple AI and All Star winner who resorts to that nonsense when winning easily against Carlow. | |

| I think the 12 week ban is ridiculous but since it has been applied to the Tipp goalkeeper Comerford and McGeeney it had to be applied to Connolly. All the good players get the shit Connolly has to deal with it our own Johnny Doyle got it a few times. The thing about Connolly is he reacts and does stupid shit himself, remember him jumping on Fitzpatrick's neck? Players are going to keep doing it because they know he's likely to blow. No sympathy for him either tbh. | |

| People don't want to know about that, fone. That'd deflect from the fun of personally abusing an amateur sportsman from behind a keyboard. Cowards.
Three Carlow players digging at him plus a Carlow maor uisce and he hadn't even got the ball. He's human, he's going to come out fighting.
Hope he takes his 12 weeks on the chin and goes travelling, for his own sanity.

| Can't agree with ye. How come Aidan O'Shea or Michael Murphy don't react like he does on a consistent basis, year after year. Because they certainly know what it's like to be provoked incessantly? Ask Philly McMahon if trying to get under a guy's skin is legitimate. And the thing about Connolly is every game he confirms that it's a legitimate tactic. And it's always someone else's fault. Never, about any other player, have I heard a county manager admitting it publicly as a tactic that they used. He should look in the mirror and management should have a stern conversation with him. It may be fair, it may be unfair, but he's gonna get it, every single game. How's he gonna react?
The rule is clear and it's there for a reason. 12 weeks is a lot for what he did but it's there in black and white. Too many rules in GAA are open to interpretation but this isn't. The man has to learn. This has nothing to do with the high horse. Carlow were awarded a line ball, he had the ball, three Carlow lads jumped at the opportunity to give him a bit, under the guise of getting the ball back - happens all the time, in every contact sport I can think of. He lost the head, as he always does.
The one complaint I would have is that the officials didn't deal with it. He should have been sent off. And it reflects poorly on the referee that he didn't deal with it but still had it in his report. This may be from subsequent feedback with the linesman but the linesman then, should have provided that feedback immediately.
Agree completely that Brendan Murphy has no argument with the second yellow, though the first was insane. And he has always had that tendency to lose the head too. But I'm at a loss to understand the comparison between his case and Connolly's. Murphy was stupid with the second yellow, and he and his team paid the price - he got the correct sanction and Carlow shipped a lot of scores subsequently. Connolly didn't pay the immediate price that he should have paid but he is getting the correct sanction now. Of course, he may get off. It'll have to be on a the much-loved technicality though, because the rule is unambiguous.

People need to get a life. A 12 week ban is the MINIMUM punishment for the offence he committed - if it was a punch or a kick it would be a longer suspension. As soon as people start getting away with physical intimidation of officials (however minor) the game is on a slippery slope. And as for Connolly - as has been pointed out, in his last 3 games for Dublin he has been sent off twice and now has a 12 week suspension. Zero sympathy for the guy

| Think this whole thing is a microcosm of the way society has moved at large. People not taking ownership of their mistakes. The precedent is long set for exhausting all avenues in appeal. Connolly will more than likely do the same.
Its a bit like the parent condoning bad behaviour but if its their own child they will say he was influenced by someone else or sure everyone else is at it.
Same with the compo culture. Drive up insurance for the rest of us because some one fell and broke their ankle and decides to sue some one for an uneven concourse rather than admit to their own clumsiness.
Is there a solution? In the GAA with so many avenues to appeal CCC, ABC, CCCC, DRA, XYZ (you get the picture) all it takes is for one of them to let you off.
Until a Jim Gavin has the conviction to step up and says 'my boy did wrong and will serve his suspension' nothing will change. The only thing the GAA can do is watertight their rule book and perhaps take a leaf from the Premier league and increase suspensions for unsuccessful appeals. Until then Connolly wont learn and mothers will blame someone elses child. |

| I know it has been pointed that we missed a trick by not going to BnaM re naming rights, but in fairness O'Connor Park is a venue that will get broadcast matches and thus get namechecked on national and local radio. We still need work on Conleth's...I think we might have mentioned it once or twice here before. I don't care about a big massive job but something tidy like Mullingar would be grand. Or is the new stadium anywhere near actually happening??
Re Connolly and the likes. I spoke to a barrister who sometimes works on GAA cases and he said a high-profile murderer's defence wouldn't find the loopholes. As noted the GAA people need to sometimes just accept their medicine, but they never do and that's the norm.
