Four Kildare Students Awarded MBNA GAA Scholarships at NUI Maynooth
Aoife May
Club: Castle Mitchell, Co. Kildare
• Aoife has played at all levels for her club
• She has also played for Kildare Minor team and was selected as player of the year 2009
• Aoife has coached under age teams in her club and at summer camp
• Aoife was very active member of the student council in her school
• She was also a member of the youth advisory panel to the ombudsman for children
Orla Ryan
Club: St Mary's, Leixlip, Co.Kildare
• Orla is a dual player in Ladies Gaelic football and Camogie and has also won medals in handball and basketball.
• Oral has played at all levels for her club in Ladies Gaelic football and Camogie
• She has played minor football with Kildare and minor and senior Camogie with Kildare
• Oral has coached in the GAA/VHI Cúl Camps and coached under age players in her club in Ladies Gaelic football, Camogie and handball.
• She was a sports prefect in Coláistá Chiaráin.
Thomas Moolick
Club: St.Marys Leixlip Co. Kildare
• Played minor, u21 & senior with his club and was selected as club footballer of the year
• Played football and hurling for colaiste chiarain. Was sports prefect in cholaiste chiarain.
• Played minor football for Kildare in 2007, 2008 & 2009. Called into the Kildare u21 and senior squads this year.
Sean Hurley
Club: Johnstown Bridge, Balyna, Co. Kildare
• Sean has played at all levels for his club, winning a county U21's "A" title in 2009.
• Sean has played for the Kildare minor teams for the last 3 years. He has been called up to the Kildare U21 & Senior panels.
• Sean was very successful with his school St.Marys Edenderry, winning a Leinster colleges U16 medal, Junior "A" medal and an all Ireland "B" medal.
• Sean has completed the GAA foundation coaching course. He has coached underage teams in his club.

Sixteen GAA students from NUI Maynooth were presented with prestigious MBNA GAA Scholarships by Bryan Kelly, Business Finance Officer with MBNA Ireland and Professor Tom Collins, President of NUI Maynooth.
Since their inception in 1998, the MBNA GAA scholarships have supported over 200 students to achieve their academic and sporting potential. Alumni of the programme are from across the country and include an astounding 24 All-Ireland medal winners, 6 All-Star Awards and almost half of the recipients have played Senior inter-county Championship for their county.
The programme assists talented students to achieve their academic potential while providing access to expert coaching, fitness training, sports psychology, health and nutrition advice, performance analysis and lifestyle management assistance.
On presenting the awards, Mr Bryan Kelly, Business Finance Officer of MBNA Ireland, said:
"We are delighted to recognise the hard work and dedication of these students both on the pitch and in the lecture halls. Gaelic Games is at the heart of every community the length and breadth of the country and we're proud to play our part in supporting that tradition and those who are ambassadors for the sport, their clubs and their counties, in NUI Maynooth".
Speaking at the award ceremony, Professor Tom Collins, President of NUI Maynooth congratulated the sports scholars:
"The MBNA GAA Scholarships are vitally important for our students and the calibre of recipients reflects the intense competition since they began in 1998. We are very proud to have MBNA as our longstanding partner and we know that they are committed to GAA and community development through their other partnerships with MBNA Kick Fada and numerous community arts programmes".
Previous recipients of these awards include Mark O'Shea (Kerry), Mary Kirwan (Laois), Alan Brogan (Dublin), Helena Lohan (Mayo) and Brianne Leahy (Kildare), Derek Hardiman (Galway), and Claire Donnelly (Dublin).
