Do the lads in college not have a choice to play with their County if they wish?

Not yet but should be later in the season. Had / having a small operation in Australia.

Apparently this is the panel for Saturday's match. Hadn't heard that Pascal Connell was called up or Heavey/Healy from Moorefield.

Paul Cribbin, Kevin Feely and Dan Flynn off playing with the colleges. Mark Hyland may be as well?

I read this morning in one of the local papers that there is a new rule which says if the college goes out before the County and the County is still in the competition then the college player can rejoin the County panel.

I think Dan Flynn is a superb player, but I think his best role is getting on the ball out the field and driving at defences using his pace and strength. Don't think he has the ball playing skills and guile for the inside line but happy to be proved wrong obviously.

I'd still have Fogarty involved. We're short on classy forwards at the moment which is why I mentioned the above group. Wayne Fitzpatrick another who would have been in that category... Seems to have gone off the county scene although did win U21 title with Monasterevin recently.

Don't think we should be blasé about letting these lads just drift off. Classy forwards are the scarcest commodity in county football - if Mayo had a couple more they'd probably have won AI by now. N Flynn and McCormack v good but they are still very young to expect them to do it all themselves - they need auxiliary support.

Is Hurley - to quote Take That - back for good? Would be a really big boost. Now if only we could get Brophy!

Connell is a terrific player - has serious potential as a midfielder/centre back. Remember when the minors trashed Dubs a few years ago and he absolutely nailed one with an elbow late on, was glorious!

What clubs are Healy, Heavey and McNamara from?

Are there a few more missing from that panel Crofter?

I think Luke Flynn, Darren Maguire, Eoin Bateman, Chris Healy, Mikey Kelly and Jamie Flynn were involved.

Connell is ok, certainly not terrific. Physically strong but Ive rarely seen him stand out in any senior match. His distribution is not the best but he may improve with county setup.

Totally disagree - he has been a terrific underage player, has potential to be a really good senior player.

Id be slow to judge a guy who stood out at minor when he was physically much bigger than everyone else. Our midfield was roasted in Leinster u21 final in 2015.Not sure if he made Athy team that year that reached county final. But agree he was a standout minor and be great to see him progress. He certainly has the physical attributes, best of luck to him.

Oh yeah, the point I was making was that he has potential at senior level, that's all. Same with all the other young lads. Plenty of ability but moulding them into a team is a different matter.

People say we big up young lads too early and generally lose the run of ourselves far too easily, but I don't think you'll ever meet a more jaded, fatalistic bunch of people!

Tbh I'm not particularly optimist about this season - didn't really like what I say in season one under O'Neill. Tactically v ropy. Again hoping to be proved wrong!

The panel posted above is for Saturday's game only I believe. Presume those above still available for later games unless any are in college.

Let's see how he goes. Underage performances warrant a try. Think he might be a bit slow for senior inter county but it never stopped Moolick or Feely.

Healy and Heavey from Moorefield. Both played OB Cup last year. Neither pulled up trees but presume Sweeney/O'Neill have seen something in them.

McNamara is Celbridge's goalkeeper.

And yes Hurley is available once recovered from his operation according to O'Neill when announcing the squad a couple of months ago. We'll have to wait for Brophy though, he'll be out there for another year at least.

I like eddie heavey and why not give him a go. Although he's probably not even an automatic with his club.. shows the lack of forwards available at the minute.
As regards Pascal connell, not sure what his best position would be.

Think McNamara is deserving of a start or two in OBC and league. Good kickouts.

Is Alan Smith gone lads? Had a lot of critics but a great servant who on his good days was a right handful. A pity we didn't see enough of them.

Id say he is for the immediate term anyway. You might see him back next year if fit . Would be a useful sub .There aren't 6 better forwards in the county than him when hes fit.
