| Offaly again - I guess they'll find a way to beat us eventually if we keep getting paired with them.

Sorry Botch but I hate it. Freezing cold weather, pitches that are like muck and players playing that we won't see again once the league starts.

| Nah, say it every year that I look forward to it. New year, no pressure so you can enjoy the games, hopefully see a player or two that might improve us. Close by so you are home quickly, wrap up well and off you go.

| I'm with Rex on this one. It used to be played between league and championship around April but I like where it's positioned now as you come out of Christmas hibernation and can get a blast of fresh air, get away from house and kids and go talent spotting in the OBC. What's not to like? I'd feck the colleges out of the damn thing though. | |

| Not a whole lot to take from today's game other than Dan Flynn looking very impressive.
Goal from Eoin Doyle late on to win it after the 2 Flynn's linked up down the right hand side.
Good save from McNamara in the last minute to keep us in front as well.
Fionn Dowling and David Slattery also came on in the second half, think it was Slattery who hit the bar shortly after coming on.
Would be happy enough if the same team started again next weekend - maybe Niall Kelly or Keith Cribbin into the half forward line.

| Not sure if all those players will be available next weekend, some may be tied to colleges but a strong team alright and I know it means nothing but nice to come away with the win all the same! | |

| Is it to early to say it's our year Good to see Dan Flynn was in at full forward. He was having a great game there against Tipp before the hamstring went. Looks like that's where Cian wants him. He'd be a handful for most fullbacks. | |

| Hmm... Good team and nice to see a few of the younger players involved. I'm not mad about Dan Flynn at FF tbh - think he's a midfielder or a half forward, same with Feely. I'd actually have a few more of the U21 forwards from last year involved - would like to see Sherry, Healy and McMonagle tried out and Rory Feely too.
Looking ahead to the first league game - has everyone heard the news? Meath have bought back - wait for it - "Big" Joe Sheridan - as a goalkeeper. It's one of those things that will either be a tactical masterstroke or an absolute debacle. It's obviously about kickout strategy with McEntee having worked with Paul Durcan at Ballyboden. Tbh I never rated Sheridan but hey, stranger things have happened.
We'll need to be far tighter this year defensively in league than last year. We got away with a flat back six, man for man approach in Div 3 but it definitely won't fly in Div 2. It's going to be a total dog fight tbh, all teams at very similar level - would expect there to be lots of twists and turns. Would be a massive boost to get back to Div 1 but not overly optimistic...

| Rory Feely is playing soccer for St Pat's fairly regularly. I can't see him committing to football in the near future anyway.
Good to see Daniel Flynn at full forward. I think he could become a real threat for us there provided he can stay injury free.

| Of those 4 only Healy is on the panel I believe HG. Sherry opted out last year due to other commitments and hasn't come back on I don't think. We are very short in the forwards but reasonably strong around midfield with Moolick, Feely, Cribbin, Hurley and even Conway as options there, so I can see the logic of Flynn at full forward. Since Tomas went (for all his faults) and Fogarty and Brophy we haven't really had a good physical full forward and when you add Flynn's pace to the mix he can ask serious questions. Worth a try and he can always switch out the field at times to keep defences on their toes a-la Michael Murphy or Aidan O'Shea. Pity he isn't going to be available to us during the O'B Cup as we could have used some time to bed him into that role. | |
