| The O'Byrne cup is shite since it moved to before Christmas. Used to look forward to getting out of the house after being couped up for a couple of weeks, brand new year, new unreasonable expectations. Now you have two games played before a Turkey realises he's in a spot of bother. Bah humbug. | |

| Anyone at Maynooth Sigerson Team v Kildare 20's 2 nite? could be a half dozen or so Kildare lads playing with Maynooth,if all fit (Gibbons, Sullivan,Robinson,McLoughlin,Comerford,Hyland)? Think Jimmy Hyland out with groin problem. | |

| Kildare 365 has had a stab at compiling the 50-man squad on the website... It’s definitely the strongest Kildare squad in a good few years, possibly since Geezer era.
Really the only three missing who should be there are McCormack, Dempsey & Brian McLoughlin.
So yeah... What can possibly go wrong. Can’t wait for season premiere at end of Jan & usual melodramatic twists & turns.
Mayo our only serious rivals as country’s longest running sporting soap opera. Should be Eastenders drum beat on here whenever Tommy does his biannual “I quit!” post.

| God these games have really gone beyond irrelevance at this stage havent they - At least with the Jan fixtures, there was a bit of bite and the average punter could feign a bit of interest while dusting off the turkey.
This time of year is a complete non sense - In saying that, given how much transition of players we require this year, it is wonderful to see the likes of Jack starting and being our top scorer yesterday. And of course, getting Dan back involved.
With longfords result v carlow it looks like we are out - No harm, enjoy Christmas and come back ready to fire in Jan !

| Lads, what way is this being ran. I see Louth played Offaly yet were in a different group. Next game Meath are playing Laois again they are in different groups.
Strange way of going about it.

You're right - it is a strange setup. As far as I can make out, Group 2 and Group 3 only have 3 teams so the odd team in each group plays each other to make sure every team plays 3 times. Then Dublin get parachuted straight into the semi-finals! The competition is only a warm up to the league so I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Group 1 – Kildare, Longford, Carlow & Wicklow Group 2 – Laois, Offaly & Wexford Group 3 – Meath, Louth & Westmeath

| 3 games are enough in this competition, never counted for much in the past when we won it. Priority has to be a strong start and 2 wins in the first 2 games of league. | |

| I certainly would never care that much about O'Byrne cup football. Just seems a ham-fisted way of doing things.
League should be priority this year, Div 1 is where we should be playing if we are at all being serious.

| League is again our most important competition next year.
There is a loads of ability in this squad but O'Connor needs to put a gun to their head in the new year and ask how badly they want this. With the right mentality I believe we should be keeping pace with the likes of Donegal, Galway, Tyrone, Mayo but the senior players need a rocket up the ass. Bulk of them been there seven years since next year so time to put up or shut up.
Side note, but... Clare missing Gary Brennan; Roscommon missing a couple of key players; Kingstons aren't committing to Laois; and Cavan are decimated with departures.
Unfortunately, guarantees nothing because we are Kildare and history of our county is largely chronic underachievement.

| Really looking forward to this year, my appetite is back for this, very optimistic we can get promotion but that's said without the merest hint of arrogance, I think we have one of the most naturally talented players around in Dan Flynn, he is our game changer, | |
