2 Triple Crowns, 1 Grand Slam, 1 Heineken cup, 1 Magners Leagues, Lions Player.............. I suppose winning every honour in the Northern Hemisphere is not much for a 26 year old I suppose......... Beat that Shackleton!

| Fone, I think if we had a thread about who could have been one of Kildares greatest sportsmen Johnny McDonald would have made it . A naturally gifted footballer. | |

Nuxer???
In fairness to Niall Buckley he gave a lot of years to Kildare and played some of the best football I ever seen any individual play for the county. I think with the injuries he picked up over the years he was past his best when he went to the states, he had his own reasons for leaving and owes the supporters of Kildare nothing in my opinion. People still talk about Larry Tompkins and Shay Fahey's defection to Cork but it was their decision and they too must have good reasons for it. Lets hope the current crop of talented young footballers decide to stay around for the long term.

| Nuxer was probably one of the best players I have seen in my time. I marked him once ye know. Scored a goal I did and everything that day. Nuxer still comments I was the toughest opponent he ever played against. ;-)
U-13 Community games in Newbridge. 1986. Morristown v Highfield. Our careers then went in opposite directions.

I have a problem with all the adulation for rugby lads when the fact is they get the shite knocked out of them any time they play southern hemisphere opposition (Exclusing mudbaths in Ireland in November). Not knocking them, fine players, but greatest Kildare man of all time, I object...

| what is the criteria? Competing on the world stage? the national stage? what level of achievement? You'd imagine Larry Stanley would have to be there or thereabouts given that he achieved highly at both national and international level in two different sporting disciplines.
Obviously, if you're talking more than sport, it's hard to see how Shackleton could be topped... was he actually a Kildare man?

| Yeah from Athy Ogie not certain about this but I think he might not have seen himself as a fior gael though if ya know what I mean. Not that that should make any difference, he did better in the southern hemisphere than the rugby lads! | |
