Strange the way a lot of Kildare people feel we couldn't do well with a local manager, it smacks of an inferiority complex. Geezer has done a wonderful job of getting guys to believe in themselves and the jersey, this imo will be his greatest legacy if in 10 years time we're still competing at the top table. Glen would be well up to the job and has shown that's he's not afraid to bring top ppl in around him just like Geezer has.

No inferiority complex in this county at all, But you look back at 100+ years of history in football. We have won little or nothing by comparision to the top counties.
The 90's we won 2 Leinsters and reached an All-Ireland final with an OUTSIDE MANAGER.
And we have just won a National League title which had never been done before and are regularly contesting All-Ireland quarter and semi finals - all with an OUTSIDE MANAGER.

Familiarity breeds contempt.

Laughable how you claim his greatest legacy will be players believing in themselves. He has already taken this county from being the laughing stock of the GAA world to winning and contesting major titles.

I agree that Geezer has been a revelation and that's why he has another two years on his contract.
However, I don't believe that because we haven't had much success since 1928 means we always have to opt for an outside manager.
If Armagh had had that attitude, Joe Kernan wouldn't have been manager in 2002, and if Tyrone thought like that, Mickey Harte wouldn't have got the job there either.

Agreed.

There are good and bad outside managers just like there are good and bad native managers. You only need to look at two of our neighbours at the current point in time. I doubt supporters of both Laois and Meath would be singing the praises of having an outside manager at the moment. Similarly I don't think too many in Kildare were overly pleased with losing to Kilkenny in the O'Byrne Cup when we had Offaly's Pat Fitzgerald in charge in the late eighties.

There are plenty within the county who could possibly do a good job but there are others who would be out of their depth. A manager should be the best candidate for the job regardless of whether they're a native or not and both cases have their advantages and drawbacks. Hopefully it's not a choice we'll have to face in Kildare for a few years yet.

How come there hasn't been a post started for Luke Dempsey ? He has a decent managerial record and could well be considered as a future Kildare manager - after Geezer & his team have finished their mission

Nah, not interested. No more than I wud be interested in the Longford CB gripes with ur hero (Glenn) bringing Kildare men up to train the senior team.

Dempsey is a decent manager with AI silverware to his name and a Kikdare man to boot. Must be a contender to fill Geezers boots whenever he finishes (3 or 4 years time)

3-4 years time..... What do you know that we don't ????

OK... Joking aside we'll need serious silverware to still have him in 3-4 years..

Glenn is on the opposite side of the ring to his Round Towers clubmate Brian Lacey tomorrow. Must be a strange one for them. You'd have to fancy Longford continue their run.

Another year over for longford and Glenn. He has made strides down there but no where convinced yet. Geezer is the man! Please god will stay for next year at least. He has one year left on the 2010 contract. Personally would like him to stay for longer than that another 2-3 years at least.

Heard yesterday after teh usual GAA discussion that Glen Ryan told the county board he will not take the Kildare Job in the future at a reduced "expenses" rate. He wants the same rates and support as McGeeny gets.
