This could just be a rumour but heard county players won't be released to the clubs until the 14th May, they would therefore not be available to clubs for round 7 of the League.

I think when the county players will go back to their clubs to prepare for championship was discussed at the county board meeting last night, does anybody know what was agreed upon if anything.

presume this will be the juniors predominantly? The cup will be there alright and I'm sure some of the first team will show up to sign autographs and pose for photos.

Was talking to a county player tonight and they can play with their clubs on the 13th if they want but then have county training on the Monday and Tuesday nights so won't be released back to the clubs until the 16th May which is only 2 days before some clubs play their first game.

If we are playing the Louth Juniors at home too why didn't some bright spark in the Leinster Council come up with the common sense idea of having a double header with the minor match? Serious lack of joined up thinking there.

Presume the team against Clare will be mostly made up of lads not involved v Tyrone - Fitzpatrick, McLoughlin, Scanlon, T O'Neill, Earley, White, Eyres, Dowling, Sweeney, Kelly etc.

You think? Or would it be a good run out for the juniors ahead of the Louth game? Does that rule regarding senior club players still apply?

From SportsNewsIreland:

Following on from Kildare’s victory over Tyrone in the League final last Sunday, Kieran McGeeney will be pleased further with the progress of star midfielder, Dermot Earley.

Dermot Earley has been out of action for his county side since the summer of 2010. He suffered a cruciate knee injury then and a further setback early in 2011 suggested his days playing intercounty football may be numbered. A second knee operation was required and at the time, Earley was optimistic about his return. “Hopefully that will be the end of operations and I can enjoy six months of rehab. We will see what happens in January and hopefully give it a go again. That’s the plan,” he said. “It’s a more straight forward one (operation) than the one I had last October and hopefully this will fix it for once and for all.”

However, he is now back in training and played the full game with Kildare on Wednesday night against Tipperary in Newbridge in a junior challenge match. He lined out at midfield before moving to full forward for the final twenty minutes. Physically he looked in great shape and even managed to kick two great points in the opening half before tiring in the second. In a good tough game of football, Kildare emerged victorious on a score line of 1-10 to 1-8, but it is the performance of Dermot Earley that will please those within the Kildare camp.

Kildare kick off their Leinster championship on the 17th of June against Offaly in Portlaoise and the signs are positive that Dermot Earley will be available to play a part in their quest for All Ireland glory.

SportsNewsIreland - The place to go to get the news. Oh yeah.

I presume they robbed that off the Nationalist or Leader or some other paper? Sure Dermot has been back yonks now, has played in a couple of national league games, a couple of challenge games. He was always available for the game against Offaly. He just wasn't going to be starting and despite playing another game, won't be on June 17.

He needs game time obviously and it's good he's getting it but, wow.

last two tweets from Ger McNally at the Kildare v Clare match in Kilcock

@GerMc31: Ronan Sweeney rounds off a good individual display with Kildare's 2nd goal 3 mins from time, 1-6 now for the moorefield man, 2-18 to 0-7

@GerMc31: Roli gets the last point of the game to make it 2-19 to 0-7 at full time

Full time: Kildare 2-19 Clare 0-07. Hugh Lynch was introduced in the second half. Great to see him back after his injury.

Our 2 goals came from Rob Kelly and Ronan Sweeney.

1. R. Eyres

2. A. McLoughlin
3. C. Fitzpatrick
4. E. Doyle

5. M. Scanlon
6. T. O'Neill
8. B. Flanagan

9. D. Flynn
12. R. Kelly

10. F. Dowling
11. R. Sweeney
22. E. Callaghan

13. P. Fogarty
19. D. Earley
15. C. Kelly

Subs: T. Moolick for C. Kelly; P. Dunne for D. Flynn; H. Lynch for D. Earley; K. Ennis for E. Callaghan; C. Heneghan for R. Eyres; S. Bergin for A. McLoughlin; C. McDonnell for P. Fogarty; E. Powderly for T. O'Neill

Total mismatch. Just shows the strength in depth we now have. Hard to judge anyone because the opposition were so poor but Eoin Doyle looks like a real prospect. Very sticky with his marking and has great pace.

Sounds like a waste of time - but at Lear the lads on the periphery got game time. Its only when you look at the team that played today you realise what a tremendous job management have done in the last 4 years - building a panel of 30 players who can come on in any game & do a job.
Our biggest failing under Micko was that we only had 15 players, little or no options to spring from the bench.

Out of interest, did Niall Browne play for Clare?

fear how did hugh do he hardly played full forward when he came on did he?
i`d be very encouraged at the thought of hughie returning if we got him back to the level he was playing early last year i could really see us winning leinster and being able to give a big lash at cork or kerry.he is a bit of a secret too, other teams dont know much about the huge boot he has which tom o connor loves.

Kildare scorers were Roli with 1-7, 0-5 coming from frees. Rob Kelly kicked 1-2 from midfield. Fionn Dowling and Tommy Moolick kicked 0-3 each. Earley, Fogarty, Scanlon and Paddy Dunne each got a point.

Typical challenge match fare and Clare put up little resistance. Thought Rob Kelly and Dowling did their chances no harm. The backs were never under any real pressure but Fitzpatrick and Eoin Doyle stood out.
