A Kildare GAA club are satisfied that they got the proper clearance to host a soccer match involving a Manchester United legends team on their pitch last weekend.
Sarsfields hosted the game for local soccer club Newbridge Town, who organised it as a fundraiser.
Frank Stapleton, Arthur Albiston, Clayton Blackmore and Keith Gillespie lined out for the United legends against Newbridge.
Sarsfields chairman John Holden said they got clearance from the Leinster Council last month to host the match after contacting them through the Kildare County Board secretary.
However, Leinster Council chief executive Michael Delaney said yesterday that he had no knowledge of any clearance for a match of this nature being given to Sarsfields.
"I'm a United fan, but not even I could bend the rules for them. It's the first I heard of it," he said.
The match would appear to contravene rules 5.1a and 5.1b which preclude clubs from renting out their property to other sporting organisations for "field games other than those sanctioned by Central Counci
