We were missing - deep breath - the TMH contingent, Feely, K Flynn, Brophy, O’Grady & N Flynn.

The key ingredient for Armagh is Clarke - they simply aren’t the same team without him - and despite having him onboard and countless chances to kill the game, they still couldn’t beat us.

Huge shifts from Doyle & Slattery, but the key players for Kildare were Masterson & Jimmy Hyland.

Masterson was MOTM. He came on when we were five adrift - when I honestly thought we were beaten - and he deliberately, PURPOSEFULLY put himself in the middle of the action. This guy is barely out of his teens, making his senior debut - and he’s already leading the team. As for the point he kicked from the middle of the field... forget about it.

Similarly, Jimmy Hyland’s two frees to seal the draw - forget about it.

The main question for this squad - as it  has been for the past few years - is psychological. Do they want to be just another team or they want to achieve greatness?

If it’s the latter - once we get everyone back onboard, let’s fucking bury everyone else in this division.

Starting with Cork next week.

How many did Armagh kick short?, a lot of wild shooting, they had two clear goal chances which they butchered, but a point earned by Kildare rather than a point lost, decent atmosphere and crowd on a bitterly cold day, thought Slattery was very impressive, Cork only drew so four teams on one point.

By the end of the game we had a third of last year’s U20 team on the field: Dempsey, Gibbons, Masterson, Nash, J Hyland.

You can tell they really don’t give a shit who they’re playing, they have total cast iron belief in themselves.

A very refreshing change for Kildare footballers, I find.

Been watching Kildare 30 years & Masterson one of the best debuts I’ve seen in that time.

HG - couldn't agree more. The lift around the ground in that last 15/10 mins when those lads stood up. Okay it's only January but to steal a draw from the jaws of defeat can only be encouraging. How many of ye felt the same dread like myself - here we go again, Armagh 5 ahead this will only get worse etc.. - then for our lads to dig deep in the manner that they did and get something - anything out of the game. These 'new' lads are afraid of nobody - and long may it last! A long way to go yet.......

Any reason for a 1pm start next Sunday? Bit unfair to us travelling.

Lads out of interest, when's the last time we bet them in the league? We're due a feckin win at this stage....... 06/07? I can't remember.

Who would you go for up front minus Neil Flynn and Co? Would like to see Jimmy H causing a bit of damage.......

Also on the fans comments - Armagh travel in good numbers as we know and are an insufferable bunch at the best of times. Lets hope Newbridge will be stocked with locals!

Great to pull it out of the bag and that kind of result will give everyone a lift.... would like to see us kicking the 40 yard ball into the full forward line to try and win clean a lot of teams made good use of it yesterday just to vary the plan think only about 2 decent balls went in and Jimmy can win these he was getting a bit of treatment and will be sore today but he always shows....

First post on here! Have to say delighted to find a forum like this that I never knew about! Suppose all there is to say is what an effort yesterday. Hyland and Masterson were class. Hopefully a few more big names are back for next week and we can push on in Cork

One of the things that always drives me (and everyone else mad on here) is the fact that our experienced players do a lot of v v silly things at times.
It is great to see the young lads being the ones to lead the way. They are good ballers and their contribution is a massive boost for them.
Masterson in from the start next day and drop Conway back in to shore it up a bit would be good.

Brilliant to manage to dig a point out of that yesterday. Unusually for a Kildare team I suppose, it was the fact our finishing was so much better than the opposition that get us the draw!

Great to pull the result out of the fire, in a game that we would surely have lost last year.

Defensively the same issues as last year are still evident - we were very lucky not to concede more than the 1 goal yesterday:

1. Anyone know why Mark Barrett wasn't in the match day squad yesterday - thought he looked decent in the OBC?
2. What is Eoin Doyle's role in the team?
He just seems to have licence to roam anywhere on the field. I'd have thought he is one of our best defenders, and in a team struggling defensively, think I rather see him in a more defensive role.

Was very impressed with Slattery yesterday. In what was a fairly improvised line-up, he kept showing in the first half and running hard at Armagh. He actually assumed a leadership role – he's earned a starting place until further notice.

Perhaps others have more insight, but the only players I know for sure are back next week are O'Grady and N Flynn. Re Doyle – Murray swept at times yesterday releasing him for a few Glen Ryan-style raids. It's a variation on a theme but we were still cut open several times. Remains an area we need to make big improvement.

Also surprised Barrett not in squad. Tyrrell had a couple of excellent moments in first half but I would say the jury is still out. Team I'd go for next week...

Cian O'Neill said afterwards that Feely was taken off as a precaution and that he expects him to be fit for the Cork game.

O'Grady and Neil Flynn are available for Sunday and he also said that Paddy Brophy and Paul Cribbin have a chance of being back.

Fair play to the yoing bucks staking their claim. When you see the names missing overall it shows we have depth.
I would always prefer Brophy closer to goals. FF line of Hyland, Brophy and N Flynn would be daycent to see how they worked together...

Fair play to RTE for comprehensive coverage last night...

No footage and a two-line exchange between Brolly & Cooper.

Brophy would have to be a lot better than last year to replace McCormack. Masterson has to start next week based on yesterday. Cribben could easily replace Flats who I thought never got involved much yesterday.
Still concerned about Hyland at FB but not sure who else could do better.
