Makes me wonder if we had a mgmt team that resembled, ehm... a management team over last 3, what might be different...

The funny thing is Donegal got rid of their manager half way through the league but here in Kildare it was "unprecedented". Look at the difference with Donegal. They couldn't win a game last year with relatively the same group of players. It’s absolutely vital we have the right people with the right vision for Kildare looking at the best candidates possible for the next manager.

A good manager makes a huge difference. We all know that. Makes average players good players. But I do think donegal.players are better than ours.

are we all happy with the discovery of new players?
We can give out about our goalie all we want but the Derry keeper yesterday was an advertisement against having your keeper coming out the field.
And lets be brutally honest. Our main issues are nothing to do with the goalie.
One of our main issues is 100% the goalie and his kickouts and distribution. Lynch had a mare Saturday, he had a great game in the league final. He came out too much and at the wrong times. That is irrelevant when it come to our keeper (who has been a great servant) not being suited to the modern game. Cant think of many(any) saves he has made either this year.

I'm not sure there is a better option though and that is a huge problem.

Aaron O' Neill was the better option. Wish him well in his recovery. Havent seen enough of Cardonnier but know he was good in last years Championship. McNamara from Celbridge has a good kickout.

Have to agree with this .The Don has been poor the past couple of seasons .He is poor under a high ball and his kick-outs have been a major factor in our defensive struggles.Whether this is a lack of kick-out strategy by the team and management it has been a factor in our slump.
He is a great shot stopper ..it is a just that more is needed from a goalie in the modern game and a sweeper keeper seems to be an advantage used by most teams to help beat the opposition press . I think Aaron was unlucky not to be given more game time especially when the Don was struggling as he might have offered more.
The Don has been a great servant for Kildare but every player should be replaceable when they are out of form.

Anyway I wouldnt change anything for Sunday as its too late. Next year. I suspect Don will be busy as Louth will go for goals and fingers crossed he makes us eat our words. Agree he is generally a very good shot stopper.
The fact we are underdogs for once in a game like this is great. Everyone writing us off and hopefully Louth are thinking the same. Form suggests otherwise but we should be thinking we are better than Louth. Two years ago we absolutely mullered them in Tullamore with largely the same players they have now. All you can hope is that fitness is improving and if they just cut out those STUPID individual errors then I give us more than a fighting chance. Our two performances in Croke Park last year were actually quite encouraging and most players love playing there. We live in hope.

I think in any other year we would be very confident of beating Louth .
This year with our form and fitness falling off a cliff leaves Louth as big favorites.
However I don't think either Louth or Kildare will relish a Leinster final against the Dubs.
So I think this game is 50/50 with the team that shows the most desire and tenacity the likely winners. No reason to think we can't beat them except our current form !
Donnellan simply doesn’t have the range of kickouts for this level of game, and how he has kept the position for a full decade, most recently ahead of Aaron O’Neill - the best underage Kildare keeper I’ve seen - defies analysis. One of many countless baffling decisions by this management.
Anyway, it’s too late in the season now to concoct a sophisticated gameplan, so we’re just going to have to get the basics right and hope for best. A few key-points I’d emphasise for weekend...
1 Cut out the lateral crap. In the space of Croke Park, the likes of Kelly & Masterson should be looking for good angled passes into Feely & Flynn. If Flynn gets possession in a promising position, he needs to go for it, because he’s our best (only?) hope of a goal.
2 Normally I like a high press when possible, but I think our wing forwards and one of the midfielders need to favour retreating ahead of the ball. Our defenders aren’t good enough to defend one on one & whatever structure is there is shaky to say the least.
3 Mulroy & Grimes need to be man marked & we need to stop the back door cuts - a very obvious Louth tactic - which murdered us in league game.
Do a decent job on those & we shouldn’t be far off as Louth, while game, are a pretty limited team tbh.

Jimmy scored 0-05 that day, Ben got 0-04, Paul Cribbin got 0-03
Looking at Ryan O’Donaghoe and even Tommy Conroy, Jordan Flynn and Eoghan McClaughlin at times, it’s a pity we didn’t get more out that u20 team. Seems like Mayo got a lot more despite losing. Injuries are killing the likes of Jimmy.
The slow handpassing is a scurge. Some of the top teams do it to manage a game, but are waiting to spring whereas we just walk and walk into trouble.
As I said, Kelly and Masterson can both kick nice angled passes so I really would like to try hitting earlier ball the odd time. Louth will fancy this and might leave it a bit more open. We'd need to free up Doyle to be on the cover for the likes of Shea/ Mick/ Houli.
If K Flynn is gone and KOC not 100%, maybe we could try Beirne in the middle as he isn't really in games enough and is a powerful runner.
Let Masterson sit behind the play and deliver ball as well as backing up play as a long-range option for scores. (To give him credit he is not as shy to step up as other years.
Kirwan needs a good game too and needs to lay it off when bottled up. To be honest we are not exactly blessed now.
Our fitness can't be up to speed in such a short time and I'd worry about that a LOT!
All fair and the one key thing is minding a man who is clearly not going to be involved in the play at times. It's something we are very guilty of for years.
