| Spot on there Jim...gets himself into great positions around the middle but can't deliver the ball to our forwards..sticky corner back...Wouldn't have him down as a great tackler though.. If we're going out in the league with the same line up/shape we're in big trouble... Johnny Byrne full back? Opinions? | |

I think that's natural for a 21/22 yo starting his second season. Well worth persevering with through any downturns in form, he has that touch of magic no other Kildare forward (except Niall Kelly) has. I'm thinking of flashes like that goal against Clare in the league final last year, just top class.

| Maynooth beaten by a point by UL after extra time, led by 9 or 10 at one stage early in the second half.
Least it'll free up a few lads from Sigerson duties.

| Meanwhile, back at the ranch... game v Down will be televised on Éir sport 1 at 7pm on March 18.
Not sure if TG4 are showing any of our matches - they are utterly useless at promoting their GAA coverage so we'll only find out about 5 mins before throw-in.

Suppose having lights puts them in the Saturday night slot Probably, but how do the County Board sell us to sponsors. If we had lights in Newbridge we could be on tv more than once in the league and get a few extra quid. It's a terrible indictment that we don't have floodlights.

| the reality is that meath are a poor side. that being said whether we can beat them or not i dont know. think we have better players but this game will likely be won/lost on the sideline | |

Wonder what the kildare insider would say about us ?. We won't get anything simple from navan, hopefully I'm wrong.... but a performance like the last day would win nothing.

| No reason to be overly optimistic based on the last day. When did we last beat Meath? Certainly a long way from the McGeeney days when we won 6 in a row I think. Would be a massive boost to our chances of staying up if we could win. | |

| Last win - O Byrne cup final in '14, and more importantly League - 2012. Championship of course was that infamous night in Navan, the summer previous! Not too optimistic about sundays assignment... | |

Yeah thought that game was the last win. Hard to believe it is 5 years ago. Ollie Lyons scored a late winner after Meath somehow had hit the upright from in front of the goal. We lost a game there in the league a few years ago under Jason Ryan after a brutal display. This present team has the potential to be a lot better than Ryan's team so lets hope they believe in themselves.

| Was there ever much excitement midweek before the first league match? In any county? Not much to speculate about until you see a teamsheet. | |

| http://hoganstand.com/Kildare/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=265674Kildare manager Cian O’Neill has revealed that they are playing to a different system this year.
Currently preparing for the opening round clash against Meath in the NFL Division Two campaign, O’Neill has been working on a new game plan for the Lilywhites.
“We are playing to a different shape this year, I would have liked to have played that way last year but it was not possible; any tactical set up is totally dependent on the players available on the day,” O’Neill told the Leinster Leader.
“I can see Sunday being a hugely defensive game, having seen Meath play this season, that’s the way they have set up under their new management; very defensively, so it will be a huge challenge, but a challenge we are looking forward too.
“All matches are important; you want to get a win of course but all games are important, and while it would be very nice to get a win on Sunday, no, it will not be the end of the world if we don’t but we are certainly going there to win; expecting to win.”Interesting to see what the shape will be, every team in the country could make the same argument that your tactical setup depends on what players are available on the day. What was worrying last year was playing one way throughout the entire league campaign and then changing it completely for the Wexford game – especially with O’Neill coming out afterwards and saying that how we setup that day was how he wanted to play all along. Against Dublin we looked tired and sloppy, there’s limits to how much a manager can improve that in the space of 2 weeks but you’d hope guys are a bit fresher at least. At the moment I’d go with following lineups to start and finish; Donnellan P Kelly, O’Grady, Lyons Byrne, Doyle, Conway Moolick, Feely K Cribbin, P Cribbin, O’Donoghue N Kelly, D Flynn, N Flynn Donnellan P Kelly, Hyland, Lyons Ryan, Doyle, Conway Moolick, P Cribbin McNally, D Flynn, N Kelly Callaghan, Hurley, McCormack

| I think we can match all the teams in Div 2 when we are playing well. The problem this Kildare team has is the ability to drop their levels of performance dramatically during a game. When they are going through a rough patch they concede heavily. Then they find it hard to get going again and wrestle the momentum back. They need to find consistency or dog out the bad patches. Probably both. | |
