A good looking team on paper. The way they are trying Dalton and Browne at wing backs is refreshing and will be very interesting to see how it works.

In Group 1 with Longford, Louth and Offaly for this.

Away to Offaly next Tuesday and then away to Louth the week after that.

Winners of our group and Group 3 (Dublin, Meath, Westmeath) go straight through to the semi’s, whilst runners up in both groups go into the quarters along with the top 2 in Group 2 (Carlow, Laois, Wexford, Westmeath).

Unusual that the winners of a 3 team group go straight through to the finals but you’ve arguably 2 of the 3 strongest teams in that group, so the usual GAA changing of the rules to suit the fixtures might have a little bit of logic to it.

Avoiding Dublin and Meath gives us a good chance of at least making a semi final.

Even if we finish second in our group we’ll be playing the second placed team in Group 2 which again is an easier draw on paper.

There’s also a 2nd tier provincial competition in place this year for teams that don’t make it out of the group but for some reason ourselves, Dublin and Meath are excluded from this.

Some good talent in this group again with a few from last years panel still around which will be a big plus.

Weirdly enough, if the seniors lost to them I wouldn't be surprised. Didn't we only scrape a win against them a few years back.

Good win for the lads, Longford have some good players. The lads from last years team to the fore , Colm Dalton impressive at wing back.

In big trouble now no? Have to beat Louth who have won both games and then hope for scoring difference and after that effort in front of goals scoring won't be in our favour.

That was shocking, no semblance of a game plan, jog forward play 10 backwards passes hail Mary shot all game ,no semblance of a plan awful disappointed

They looked dead on their feet from the off. Really poor. The balance of the team didnt look right, too many midfielders in the forwards. I saw a couple of forwards not togged out who would have been useful. We got 5 scores ffs on a dry night.

They knew Offaly's game plan before the off. They knew it was 15 behind the ball.
They knew they had to get in front early to draw them out, that just never happened.
Conditions didn't help. There are some fine footballers in that u20 group. This will test them

We missed some very scorable chances, with each wide Offaly gre in conference.
Players and crowd cheered on each one. We only showed some urgency in the final 5/10minutes. That was the most disappointing aspect.

We lost last year and went on to win it.

Wondering what the story is with Joey Cunningham this year. The absolute standout at minor last year. I thought he would be straight in. Not even on the subs for the first two games. He might be injured or might just be a bit young still.

Thought Eoin Cully would be an important player for this team but he wasn’t on the panel - is he injured maybe?
