| So who from the kildare team might be in with a shout?
For me its Johnny, Leper and possibly Jimmers.
Any thoughts on this? | |

| Probably the same, but only J.D will get one. Leper has a better chance than Jimmers because of his performance in the semi.
I think we will get nominations for J.D, Leper, Jimmers and Bolton.

| I've a funny feeling he won't but even though he should, the same goes for Flynn.
The media have a lot of say in who gets nominations and eventually the All star, Peter has been very low key outside of the County, therefore not many people will have spotted his talent.

| I reckon we will get nominations for Mcgrillen,Bolton,JD,Leper and Kav. Leper and JD will get one I reckon. Mcgrillen has been class iMO,I cant think of 3 better full backs than him this year. | |

| JD, Leper, Jimmers and Kelly will get nominated. I think Flynn and Morgan O'Flaherty both deserve nominations but the fact that both were taken off (injuries in both cases I think) against Down will probably count against them.
I think JD is more or less guaranteed one and a long overdue one at that. Leper deserves one more than Jimmers IMO but I think the selection panel will probably have it the other way. Very few will have seen the excellent performances Leper put in against Antrim (x2) and Leitrim. Jimmers will be in their consciousness because of the goal against Meath but Leper was far more consistent over the whole summer.
My stab at a team (obviously who plays well in the final will alter this greatly):
1 McVeigh (Down) - Cluxton will probably get it though. 2 Kelly (Kildare) - YPOTY candidate too given that you now have to have played u21 in the same calendar year apparently 3 Gordon (Down) - No real outstanding candidates for this position and Gordon has succesfully moved back a bit like Moynihan in 2000 and McAnallen in 2003 4 McMahon (Dublin) - Apart from the Meath game he didn't really put a foot wrong 5 Callaghan (Kildare) - You could pick him in either the half-back or half-forward line, I'll accomodate him here 6 McKernan (Down) - Didn't know a lot about this guy before the Down/Kerry game but he's been seriously impressive 7 Kissane (Cork) - One of the few Cork players that has stood out this summer 8 Keenan (Louth) - Brilliant footballer who went to town on our midfield in Navan 9 Galvin (Cork) - I think one of the Cork lads might edge him out if they have a good final but for now he gets my nod 10 Hughes (Down) - Won a mountain of breaking ball in the semi-final and is capable of chipping in with a few scores too 11 Clarke (Down) - Ran the show in the semi-final, will be POTY if he has a good final 12 Kerrigan (Cork) - Stood up when Cork needed him against Dublin, has been their best forward this summer 13 Doyle (Kildare) - Top scorer wrapped up before the final even though he had an iffy year with the frees, workrate is phenomenal 14 Coulter (Down) - Has everything you'd want in a full-forward, will edge out Shine from Roscommon 15 Brogan (Dublin) - Carried the Dubs on his back for most of this summer and nearly did enough to bring them all the way
6 Down 3 Kildare 2 Cork (This number could well increase significantly at the expense of Down's 6 depending on the final) 2 Dublin 1 Limerick 1 Louth
Feel free to tear this selection to shreds!

| I think Flynn, Kavanagh, Callaghan, Kelly, Dermot and JD will all be in with a shout but reckon it will be Kavanagh and JD getting nominated , can't see us getting two forwards with Bernard Brogan as a definite, Donie Shine and Gooch will be pushing hard to get one on this years performances, Cork and Down will have the lions share as all Ireland finalists so Johnny is our best bet for an all star from his all round play and the fact he is top scorer in the championship. | |

| You can't get accommodated any more..... You are either a back or a forward and seeing as Leper was picked in the forwards for matches, he would have to be nominated in the forwards.... The fact he won the Vodafone Award for July after two MOTM performances would suggest he will get a nomination.... | |

| I think Johnny has agreat chance amd will be our only represenetative, McGrillen has an outside chance,
All Ireland final performances usually count for a lot in the all stars and usually the finalists share maybe 10 between them
Bolton, Leper, Kavanagh should get nominations, Don't see Peter Kelly getting one, he was excellent as a man marker, but didn't contribute on the ball like a mark o se or ryan mcmenamin.
I think The Roscommon keeper has a chance, can't think of his name, he had a great game against cork and could be connaughts sole token representative, If Pearse oNeill has a good final he could push for a place, likewise Shiels, Paddy Kelly,Goulding, Galvin from Limerick should get a midfield spot

Good shout with that team. There are currently five certainties for an All Star imo
Keenan Brogan Coulter Clarke JD
That leaves two forward positions for
Shine I hope and Cork players
All other positions up for grabs and these will be decided after AI final.
In kildare's case I think that Kelly will also get a nomination.

| If you were to base it on the Down match it would be JD.
If you were to base it on the Meath match it would be Jimmers & Morgan.
If you were to base it on the whole season (as it should) it would be JD, Flynn & Morgan.
Leper is a class act but didn't finish 3 or 4 matches iirc.
Kavanagh was sublime against Meath, Louth & Monaghan.
Peter Kelly has been a great addition to the team.
Hugh, Mac, Emmet also had a great year.
But I can only see 2 All Stars JD & Morgan.

| there is no point talking bout Kelly, Morgan flats and flynn the all stars are really based on who is talked about most in the media as its the media who decide essentially. Nom' sfor JD, Leper and Kavanagh.
JD to defo get one and maybe kavanagh because of the hype his goal caused which made people aware of his ability! although leper deserves one for his season's efforts, he is up against stiff competition with danny hughes a cert at 10. suppose the num 12 shirt is up for grabs for both of the lads though. Kerrigan hasnt been anyway near allstar material all year, but of course having said that, 3 or 4 points in the AIF and he's in. such a flawed system.

Obviously all this could change come all ireland final day. Can't see that changing much if Down win. Cork might have 1 or two more if they win. I struggled to pick a half back line. Several unlucky to lose out including Kelly, Jimmers, Flynn, Cooper, Sheridan, Reilly, Penrose, Shine, Kelly (Sligo).
Sunday game team will be totally different I reckon. I reckon we'll have two on that.

Decent shout at a team there kickingkick but who is this? The Limerick lad? Yep. Meant Limerick. BTW, (not directed at you Hawker) but am I the only one who doesn't get the hype surrounding Michael Shields? I've never been anyway convinced by him. He came on at full-back for Derek Kavanagh in the 2008 quarter-final against ourselves and couldn't handle Roli or Smith at all when we were camped in their square for the last ten minutes. I though Declan O'Sullivan took him to the cleaners twice earlier on in the summer. He struggled against Donie Shine in the quarter-final and couldn't put a halt to Brogan's gallop when switched onto him in the semi-final.

| Can't see Galvin getting one this year, although it does show the lack of stand out players in this area that I can't actually think of somebody who deserves one ore except for our own Darryl Flynn who definitely won't get one. Probably be one from the finalists. | |

| Shields would be a natural centre-back. I would agree that he has been exposed at full-back on numerous occasions and couldn't believe he got an All Star last year given the riding Murphy gave him. And Shine did the same this year. But he's quality in the half-back line, brilliant at carrying the ball, kicking a point and strong. Just full-back doesn't seem to suit him. But Cadogan is the same, a natural half-back and someone has to play inside.
Kildare could get four or five nominations but I can see only one All Star and I can't decide whether it will be JD or Leper.

as in caoimhin king of meed? what in the name of god are you basing this on? I'd assume he means Kallum King of Down. 45 players get nominated so we should be looking at 4 nominations at least - JD, Leper, Jimmers & Kelly for definite. We might pick up one or two between McGrillen, O'Flaherty, Bolton, Flynn.
