Time For Kildare Fans To Be Counted Empty
PostSubject: Time For Kildare Fans To Be Counted   Time For Kildare Fans To Be Counted Icon_minitimeTue Jun 26, 2018 1:08 am

In light of the decision to move Kildare v Mayo to Croke Park, I think the time for Kildare fans to finally be heard has come. It's time to stand up and lead the way. We have bemoaned the lack of action from our county board in the past but I believe this is an issue we must lead on.

As the forum of Kildare supporters, I think this is the only natural place for an organised and concerted movement to be orchestrated.

What, as a group and a body of supporters, can we do to be heard on this matter. All suggestions are very welcome.

Some that come to mind.

A blanket boycott of the game
Picket Croke Park on Saturday evening
Leave the game en-masse after a set time Eg 45mins

If it's played in Croke Park - boycott.

There should be only one course of action, if the game is moved, concede it. There is no other option because it will happen again and again until some County makes a bold and brave decision to put it's own people first.

Why can't it be us now. The whole GAA community would be behind us. There is no downside. We either get the game in Newbridge or we go down in History as the first County to fight back. Once one County does it the flood gates will open.

The time is now.

Leaving the game or some form of protest inside Croke Park will be completely ignored by the GAA because your money will already be in their bank account.

I'd be all for a picket but you won't be left near the ground without a ticket. And if you're out on a public road outside the exclusion zone, like say the junction of Clonliffe Road and the Drumcondra Road, the Gardaí will move you on. Also, how many people would be likely to travel up to not attend the match?

I think a blanket boycott is the only feasible option which might get a message through to both the GAA and the county board. The problem with a boycott though is that it is the supporters en masse abandoning the players. Not every supporter is going to agree to that.

Would the players agree to concede?

Edit: Anybody with club mates on the panel should sound them out ASAP on this.

I would 100 percent back them not playing. As Rex says, would be a watershed moment.

Agree but there also needs to be a statement made. A highly visible statement. A couple of hundred fans not buying a ticket won't make any difference to them. They'll still make more than if it was played in Newbridge.

You are right lads, boycotts is to be fucked.

The county and team should boycott it, we will never win anything without some pride and you have no pride if you allow yourself be shafted.

Dreadful carry on by money grabbing bastards.

Much more of a statement. I would 100% back that.

Wouldn't it be even more of a statement if Mayo agreed to play in Newbridge.

This is a time for the lifeblood of the GAA, the supporters to say a great big FUCK YOU to the GAA.

If the county board, players and supporters were all on board, a few thousand people showing up at St Conleth's Park at 7pm on Saturday would be some statement.

Did you see the ground Waterford played Monaghan in? As bad as Conleths is I'm sure we can still have a game there even if its only 5 or 6k.

We cannot accept playing in Croke Park for a truckload of reasons.

Stand our ground and refuse to play in Croke Park.

What if the move to Portlaoise? Presume same applies?

GAA just worried their beloved Mayo and Tyrone are in the Super 8s

If you go they get your money. If you protest, it'll be lost in crowds. If you boycott, there will still be 30,000 at it still and a few words on Sky about absence of Kildare fans will quickly be forgotten as the team take a kicking in what becomes an away game.

Team needs to concede it.

It would put GAA in incredible bind, show us up as courageous at a time when leadership against this money-driven elitism is needed, would cost the GAA a lot of dignity and crucially cash, and would leave us at centre of historic moment that'll be talked about and looked up to for a long time.

There are bigger things than a third round qualifier we would likely lose anyway.

PS Only Newbridge should change that, not some half-baked move to Portlaoise where both board and Croke Park save face and talk compromise as that's still bulshit.

What's the penalty these days for letting off flares or smoke bombs?

Think you'd need to provide a boating licence for them now if buying in a shop but worth a shout if a couple of dozen people want to throw one each onto the pitch after the anthem.

The FAI fine the club involved and the fan gets removed from the ground and sometimes receives a warning letter on some official looking headed paper a few days after the incident if it happens in a League of Ireland game.

I'm not a fan of the showing up late or leaving early carry on as they're still getting your money and that's all they care about.

Much prefer if the players rather than county board just announced they weren't going to fulfil the fixture if it's to take place in Croke Park. Let's see what the GPA are all about then.

The problem with a boycott though is you'll get some of the bandwagon who haven't been to a game all year rocking up because it's Kildare against Mayo in Croke Park and they won't know half of what's happened.

Fully agree Newbridge or no game.

The problem here is I believe the only ones that can force that is the players and management. Really they have enough on their plates. I would hate to see them play in Croke Park without any Kildare support. That would just not sit right with me at all. Love them or hate them (some times both in the same 5 minutes) it is our team and I would like to back them all the way.

Think Tommy's right tbh – should be played in Newbridge or we should concede. That would get people's attention alright.

Here's my suggestion - get the GAA To open Conleth's Park for the match on Sat/Sun (if it's moved to Croke Park) and let the supporters and team turn up THERE. A very loud and press-worthy step

On one hand it should be down to the county board and the team to decide if they refuse to play but this all extra distraction and pressure on players, if they decide to forego the game then we should stand behind them. Issue needs to be resolved fast and get back to the game preparation. Either way well done gaa, protection of your second love child mayo is important and causing such distractions in Kildare has surely benifited mayo already to ensure you get your box office final.

I'd like to think the silence from our county board is due to the fact they're still trying to get this farce sorted but ....
