This thread was titled "Time for Kildare Fans to be Counted" and isn't it wonderful that ourselves (we have to take some small credit on this forum) along with our county board and team management and many journalists and good GAA folk called out central council on this issue and didn't blink.

An astonishing achievement for all involved. Hopefully a landmark moment and I am so very thrilled that we as a county led the way on this.

Normally we look on in envy at other counties and bemoan ourselves but today is a proud proud day to be a Kildare gael.

Anthony Moyles on twitter. Nail on head. Some of these journalists are so far up the hole of Croke Park that they're like Paul Williams and Paul Reynolds with Garda management.

Sincere well done to the powers that be for holding firm.......... and this will assist the wider GAA community and may even help Kildare get the relevant grants and funding to upgrade St Conleths asap.......... how will tickets be distributed now will be interesting? don't think anyone will mind not getting one to a more deserving fan.....

I started a thread that might have mattered....haha, maybe not but it is still great to see all Kildare fans rally around the team and a cause.

Well done to all who made this happen, from team and management , through to county board, supporters and the general GAA public.

Now, not knowing how the tickets are to be sold, would it be wrong of me to suggest that members of this forum do our best to help each other out in getting tickets if they are on public sale? Order a couple extra maybe if you get a chance to buy and we can sell them on to real Kildare GAA supporters.

Obviously if tickets are to be sold through the clubs, I wouldn't suggest this but if they are on public sale via Super Valu etc. mop 'em up and get Newbridge as white as it can be. Remember, Mayo will have a minimum of 50% of the support as they will be sorted with season tickets.

Extract from the GAA Statement:

"Following discussions with the Kildare County Committee and An Garda Síochána in recent days, upgraded match-day and traffic management plans involving extra stewarding and Gardaí will be put in place to cater for the large crowds expected at the venue before the game.

"The GAA wishes to point out that the decision by the CCCC to fix the game for Croke Park originally was based on serious concerns around the health and safety of patrons attending the fixture. The CCCC has received assurances that these issues will be adequately addressed."

This really takes the biscuit. They are back to pedalling the health and safety line, when it's already been shown that this was never the reason for their decision as Kildare were already in compliance on this front Why can some people not just admit they were wrong and say sorry?

Yer man mcgill should resign, he showed nothing but contempt for fellow gas members and was heavy handed in the extreme. You can't have croke park officials going around acting like soviet politburo members, the GAS has to be better than that.

Not good at all, Mayo will now feel that the whole country is against them after this and that will galvanise them. Once their fans get behind them they will really go hell for leather to win this one. After all this good work it seems all that has been achieved is that we have deprived the kildare team the support they deserve..

We shouldn't have pandered to them and gave them all there seasons tickets, have no problem with them there my second team tbh but fuck that it our home game.... The players, management and county board wanted the match in Newbridge and so did all of us. The players do deserve a massive Kildare crowed and who ever is there make as much noise as possible, if I get a ticket I know I will. Doubt Mayo will feel like that what happened was nothing to do with them could give our lads some motivation though considering the organisation were trying to fuck us over.

Also offering to ensure every Kildare player entering the pitch Saturday evening is in possession of a gumshield!

Jaysus lads, forget about being outnumbered by maybe 1,800 at most. We'd have been outnumbered by 10,000 in Croke Park. Also our home patch lads are familiar with, a serious battle won, and a team galvanised I hope. Also county hasn't been as interested in football in five years. Was about more than numbers at a game

Best thing to come out of all this locally is that St. Conleth's will be upgraded a lot sooner than was anticipated. Shocking state of affairs in a county like Kildare.

It is dependent on funding from Croke Park so you would think this week's debacle would focus their minds. On the other hand.........

While I want to forget the debacle and get back to the game. Alan militant Milton, the gaa commercial director was interviewed on off the ball strongly defending the indefensible sounding very techy. Why oh why do they not admit this was a huge mistake and PR disaster and move on. The perception of an out of touch bullying organization is being made worse with such interviews. I no longer feel part of the gaa. He also kept referring to traffic the traffic sounding dismissing the garda go ahead on Monday. What does this imply? That the gardai are unprofessional and don't know what they are talking about? and making such a big deal of Newbridge town ability to take traffic. Remember 2001 Donegal game at derby weekend had 18,000 not 8,000. OMG build a bridge

The debacle is done. It's all about the game now.

Terrible interview by Milton, far too aggressive and dodging the main question. Which was why the meeting yesterday which completely reassured the GAA on H&S couldn't have been held on Monday. And why they were so quick to go for the double header. Fair play to the ORB lads for for a proper interview.
Heard a bit of Marty on rte asking someone whether they were happy with the H&S this evening . Let it go Marty, you tried!
