| Confirmed at tonight's board meeting, Kieran McGeeney, Niall Carew, Damien Hendy and A.N Other will be Kildare's management team for 2013.
He will also be U21 manager alongside Syl Merrins, Niall Carew & Tom Cribben.

Depends how he approaches the role. If he allows lads who are also part of the senior set up to train and play with the under 21's on a fairly regular basis then it could turn out to be a good move. If it's a way of making sure that these players don't feature or train with anybody other than the seniors then it'll be pretty much as you were for the under 21's and we won't make much of an improvement. Surprised Murphy isn't involved with them, would have been a decent choice seeing as how he'd already know most of the lads having managed them at minor level. Could have been a boost to have that level of continuity within the team. The flip side of that argument though is that McGeeney managing the under 21's should allow for smoother transition for young lads into the senior set up.

| The U21s will train with the seniors so that will be very beneficial. McGeeney and Carew were U21 selectors last year but barely saw the players before the first round, which was hardly ideal. Good calibre of people in with them, in Cribbin and Merrins.
I'd say Murph will have no involvement this year and wants a break. He has a young family.

| I think its a very positive move. Bringing the U21's and seniors closer is good for the younger lads and also should put a bit of vibrancy into the set up. It should also be a way of keeping the combined panel big enough and at the same time reduce the senior panel size. Pity it was'nt done sooner but its a good move and I dont see Mcgeeney taking it lightly.

| A good move we had to get rid of Alan Barry he made no improvement with the U21's in his 3 years there. Also with the senior panel cut down to 30 players this will help having a big group of players at training with no extra costs to the Co board. | |

| AN Other could hardly turn out to be John Evans could it? I see he's not included on the Meath ticket! I work in Navan and they reckon he was the brains behind the mini revival this year in a very short time....! | |

And by all accounts, he reckons so himself too!

| Well its pretty obvious that his arrival into the Meath setup - coincided with a marked improvement in Meath fortunes / reckon he would be a great AN Other selector - although I'm sure he wouldn't be cheap. | |

| Some people say Evans was the Meath manager after the attempted coup. So dunno how he feels about being a No. 2. | |

| That could be said of most Banty managements. Banty is a manager in the strictest sense. He gets in people to do the various jobs that he thinks need to be done. Evans is a brilliant coach, he had a big part to play in what is happening underage at Tipperary. Wouldn't be mad about being a No 2, or just a selector or coach.
As for Meath, I think a bit much is being made of their so-called improvement. I don't think they were particularly outstanding in the championship. I wouldn't rate their display against Kildare highly, which is what everyone is basing this improvement on. There wasn't a lot before or after that to suggest they had made savage ground.
What I find interesting is that it means there will be four selectors for the first time. That's a lot of voices.

| I don't think the an other will be from outside the county due to the reported cut in the budget so it'l be shop local. it'l be interesting to see who takes up the role of head coach as up to this Grimley, O Rourke and Rafferty were the main men | |

| Hendy was involved in the Senior setup last year / so its pretty much the same setup with Rafferty being replaced with AN Other. | |

| I don't think he was in a position to take on the job . Probably not that many interested as more "rewarding " jobs are available at club level . | |

| What's wrong with him? Didn't he manage the VEC team last year that got to an All Ireland final and won a Leinster Intermediate with Maynooth. He must be doing something right. | |

| Didn't mean he wasn't qualified more a fact of young kids and all that was what I heard. Minors would take up more time than a club and Vec combined | |

| As was stated by "fone" on the new selector thread yesterday I've also heard Brian Murphy's name mentioned as the front runner for the job again. | |

| Cryan was not approached about the Minor position although he was very interested. Murphy was asked to take it again and said he would if no one else wanted it. | |

| Well the county board certainly can't be accused of lacking loyalty to their managers | |
