Also, there are players listed that are retired! While David Lyons hasn't been on the Kildare panel in what, three years? More? Still, I couldn't resist. But yeah, the way it's done, you have to decide who you think will win particular games and go with them... so for argument's sake, I haven't picked Stephen O'Neill or Seán Cavanagh as I'm backing Donegal to beat Tyrone. Tyrone win and my Karl Lacey and Colm McFadden are worthless unless they come through the qualifiers.

Looking at the Cavan/Armagh game I think we did Cavan a favour taking Seanie Johnson off them.

Is this the same Cavan we put 3-20 on last year.
Armagh are a pale shadow of the team they were. They were brutal in it's harshest meaning today. Any team who defends as naively as them was always going to get beaten no matter who they played and yet were in it until the last 5 mins.
Cavan are a long way off being competitive against the top teams.

As for Galway, it's a lesson we should learn, that throwing U21's in with the big boys could be a disaster waiting to happen. It also shows that when a County get on a downward spiral it is nearly impossible to stop and when you fall behind it is a long way back. The gap between Galway and Mayo has never been as big and it will continue to be that way for many years to come.
We have been warned.

Mayo were very impressive and will be a hard team to beat in August if Moran is back fit. He gives them leadership up front that they lacked in the All Ireland last year.

Armagh are in terminal decline. They are a very ordinary team with the exception of Clarke and Kernan. None of their minor team who won the All Ireland a few years ago have pushed on at all. Cavan are a coming team and should be looking to develop into Ulster challengers in a few years time with all the promising youngsters they have coming through.

Westmeath gave Carlow a good beating. It will be interesting to see if they can expose any weaknesses in Dublin's armour.

Formality W/Meath win , should be a good contest , if it was as good as made out to be , at least it wont be a dead rubber game , a bit of a contest , good chance to see the form of both semi finalists Wink

Slightly off topic but I see Carolls meats the Offaly sponsors are trying to break the world record for the number of ham sandwiches made. Brady's should do the same thing for charity and beat them by 1 sambo Very Happy

I said it before and ill say it again no matter how blunt it is absolute brilliant player but Glenn Ryan should not be let near the hotseat in Kildare proven not a good inter county manager how many championship first round losses is that for longford!?

The positive today is Laois were beat in Portlaoise well done to Louth and that side of the Leinster draw is now wide open.

All focus on Offaly 6 days to go bounce

So lads anyone want to have a stabd at the starting XV. I dobn't know who Geezer will go with or what way we are going to play!

I'd go for...
Donnellan
P Kelly
Foley
McGrillen
Lyons
Bolton
Cribbin
Paudie
Dan Flynn
Leper
N Kelly
JD
Smith
Tomas O'Connor
P Brophy

How are we re injuries?

This would be my team, although I believe it will probably be nothing near the actual team selected.

It will be interesting to see how committed to changing things the management really are and bringing in some youth.

Connolly
Kelly
Foley
Lyons
Cribben
Eoghan Doyle
Bolton
Hurley
Daryl Flynn
Leper
Niall Kelly
Dan Flynn
Doyle
O'Connor
Johnston

Leaving Smith, Brophy, Paidi, McGrillen, Dowling all to come in and make an impact.

I might even throw Hyland of Athy in from the start too.

Team selection on Saturday will go a long way in indicating the direction of the current set up.
It pains me to say it but a lot of lads on the panel are getting to the stage where they don't know how to win big games. They've come accustomed to losing big games and its time for us to move on.

Donegal's performance yesterday was phenomenal. The bar has been set very high. Let's hope we get things off to a good start on Saturday. I'd go for...

Connolly
Kelly
Foley
McGrillen
Cribbin
Doyle
Bolton
Flynn
Hurley
O'Neill
Callaghan
Flynn
Johnston
Doyle
Niall Kelly

I wouldn't have Hurley on the team just yet. He is a fine athlete and footballer but in big games I have seen him i just think he is not up to the pace/sharpness required yet. The All Ireland semi, sigerson final last year and tyrone game this year i saw countless times where he made the fist pass too late or ran into tackles too late or just made wrong decisions. While he might get away with this kind of thing against the Biffo's he most certainly will not against the Dubs. Maybe more game time in next years NFL will bring him on a tonne

He should be. I'd have to question management if we're served up the same pairings in midfield that have failed us in the past.

These younger lads are winners, they have the winning mentality and will fear no one.

At this stage we have nothing to lose.

Yeah, another summer of the same old same old will get us nowhere.

That's very disappointing about Hurley if it's true. He was outstanding in the U21 final and he has enormous potential.
