Anyone can vote on hoganstand from any county or with an axe to grind or from Cavan.

At least here, most if not all are from Kildare which adds a little but of weight and an idea how supporters are thinking.

I'd say that echoes the view of the majority of those votes.

McGeeney has a lot of good traits as a manager but he has got things badly wrong on the big days and without a strong character that knows their football beside him he has struggled.
So he has had Grimley, O'Rourke, Rafferty and Jason Ryan beside him over the last 6 seasons.

At what point do we stop blaming McGeeney and start questioning the players here.

Armagh have Grimley managing them.
Louth have O'Rourke.
Ryan was with Wexford.
Niall Carew is with Waterford

So in effect we have had 4 Intercounty standard managers along with McGeeney over the last 6 years. But people seem to still point the finger of blame solely at him.
We were on an upward curve with the former two who were strong minded and opinionated selectors with o'Rourke apparently a massive reason for our excellent years in 2010 and 2011 all things considered. The latter two from what I was told were yes men under McGeeney. However as lone managers they have done well.

The players have to take some of the blame of course but I think if they were set up correctly for games and didnt look over trained and sluggish in games they would put it up to any team in the country and would be hard to beat. With the number of all stars / all star nominees in this team we should be doing better. Geezer has brought us a long way but has he brought us as far as he can where I think tactically he has struggled to get it right.

Definition of madness is keep doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different result.

I haven't voted because I don't see merit in any of the options.

Well I was actually taking the piss with the Micko suggestion, but doesn't Dermot have the same amount of experience in management that Geezer had before he took over?

Dermot could be a very good manager for another county but not Kildare, he's too close with the current players but in a few years he could be a great option for us.

Aren't you great Stonecold. You come on here beating the chest and give several reasons as to why you think McGeeney should go (some of which don't hold any water) and then you fail to suggest one credible alternative.

At least he puts forward an argument, On the other thread I dont see you making a coherent argument against the points that sc makes. All you seem to say is that mcgeeney should stay on and thats it with no constructive argument to why he is going to succeed now when he hasnt in the last five years.

You haven't given a proper reason why he should stay except that the world will end as we know it..........

On top of not giving reason why he should stay, it has been put to you before Walter if you thought McGeeney had any weakness as a manager and you failed to respond?

The main issue here is there really is a lack of an alternative but I would love to see a proposal from Cian o'neill and what he would do with the team. Granted he is inexperienced but he has been involved in great setups with excellent managers in recent years, he is obviously an intelligent man and he would have the team in excellent physical condition.

Good to see that all the pro McGeeney supporters being so mature, you can't even offer one reason to keep him other than its the best for Kildare, its like the Life of Brian

Brian: I am NOT the Messiah!

Arthur: I say you are Lord, and I should know. I've followed a few.

McGeeney + new backroom team seems to be what the majority want but no one seems to be proposing any realistic options as to who will make up this new backroom team.

I have said that if he goes he goes we move on but if he stays I'd be happy enough. So you could say I'm pro McGeeney or however you like to describe it. Off the top of my head I can think of eight reasons to keep him.

5 consecutive quarter finals.
A semi final.
A Leinster U21 title.
Division one retained for next year.
The inclusion of the U21's this year.
The backing of two of the greatest players to wear the jersey.
All the off field effort he puts in such as sponsorship.
One Qualifier defeat in 6 years.

How could I possibly say Murof that them kind of displays wont happen again if we retain the manager no.1 im no physic everygame is different in the Gaa and no.2 could you say that them kind of performances wont happen if we replace McGeeney either? no didnt think so.
IM 'pro McGeeney' as some of the 'anti' put it honest to god you wonder what planet some Kildare fans are on as if Kildare are AI contenders every year before 2008 I think the relative success we have had since 2008 has gone to some lads heads.
Adding on to Rex's list the reason McGeeney should be kept on.

A National League Title
The professional approach he has brought kildare.
Has made Kildare a high Profile county which gets big support lets face it after Micko the support went to a low.
Kildare are no longer pushovers or seen as the handy draw.
The players fully back and play out of their skins for him see young Niall Kellys comments no players leave like many other county players to america after a loss as pat spillane said he is some man to get a team going again in the qualifiers after a loss and thats not easy.
The fundraising the team has done to get a gym and help finance the team.
The pride in the Jersey is restored after Kildare became a laughing stock a nobody county.
There is a good group of players there and coming through that I think he can develop and push and he is the one to get the best out of them.
I think Kildare have a good chance of retaining Division 1 again with McGeeney at the helm.

Now im not saying he is the perfect manager but Kildare could be in a worse position only for him it is hard to get out of a rut just look at Offaly and what they are trying to achieve McNulty at Laois has not done a quarter of what McGeeney has in his 3 years with them. As I said not perfect some of the tactics subs I dont always agree with but by god the man deserves the chance for all the commitment put in at Kildare to win silverware with them. The alternatives dont compare right now.

McGeeney+ a new backroom team for me is a new change to S&C whether that a new trainer or a tweak what they are doing so that there is an injection of pace into the team and a look at the defense tackling etc.

Fair play whiteknight on the comprehensive reply. However my question was whether the first half performance against Tyrone would become the norm in the future under the present manager. Any team can have an off day but that display against Tyrone has happened too often in the past 2 years in big matches. I admire a lot of what McGeeney has done but his achievements in the early years are in danger of being overshadowed by the awful displays in the championship in the last 2 years. If he doesn't make significant changes to his backroom team and his tactics then no improvement is likely. Still waiting on Walter to reply btw.

I expect consistant progress which we were achieveing up to 2011. Looking at our results for last 6 years:
2008
Kildare 0-9 Wicklow 0-13
Kildare 1-16 Cavan 1-15
Kildare 1-11 Limerick 0-11
Kildare 0-11 Fermanagh 0-05
Kildare 1-11 Cork 2-11
For 3-58 against 3-55
2009
Kildare 1-16 Offaly 1-10
Kildare 2-12 Wexford 0-11
Kildare 2-18 Laois 0-9
Kildare 0-18 Dublin 2-15
Kildare 1-16 Wicklow 2-09
Kildare 1-11 Tyrone 0-16
For 7-91 against 5-70
2010
Kildare 1-16 Louth 1-22
Kildare 0-15 Antrim 0-15
Kildare 1-15 Antrim 0-9
Kildare 1-12 Leitrim 0-6
Kildare 2-17 Derry 1-9
Kildare 1-15 Monaghan 1-11
Kildare 2-17 Meath 1-12
Kildare 1-14 Down 1-16
For 9-121 against 5-100
2011
Kildare 0-12 Wicklow 0-5
Kildare 0-16 Meath 0-10
Kildare 1-11 Dublin 1-12
Kildare 3-16 Laois 0-10
Kildare 2-11 Meath 0-14
Kildare 0-19 Derry 0-13
Kildare 0-14 Donegal 1-12
For 6-99 against 2-76
2012
Kildare 0-19 Offaly 0-6
Kildare 1-11 Meath 1-17
Kildare 3-20 Cavan 1-9
Kildare 0-19 Limerick 0-12 AET
Kildare 0-13 Sligo 0-4
Kildare 0-12 Cork 2-17
For 4-94 against 4-65
2013
Kildare 0-19 Offaly 1-12
Kildare 1-09 Dublin 4-16
Kildare 1-19 Louth 0-15
Kildare 0-12 Tyrone 1-11
For 2-59 against 6-54

How we never kicked on from 2011 I will never know, tight defense and some great results and you could see the progress from previous years. I admire the man for what he's done and how far he's brought us but I can't get my head around the last 2 years and hw its gone so pear shaped.

I get what you're saying stonecold. 2012 was a step back, but not a leap. In that year we won division 2 beating a top team and still managed to reach the quarter finals.

This year was the start of a completely new team, bringing through young blood merging in with what McGeeney had already brought through.

2 retired players Dermot Earley and Roly has very publicly backed McGeeney. They have absolutely no reason to, both are now gone from the panel. In fact if they had any issue at all with McGeeney now would be a perfect time to stick in the knife. They wouldn't even have to do it in the fashion that O'Hara did it , a simple it might be time for a change would suffice.

But they have immediately said that McGeeney is man to lead Kildare forward. I've said it all along.
And their opinion only makes me believe even more.
