Davy Fitzgerald is also participating in this Clane thing. I assume that's also unacceptable to you lot? Sure Clane had plenty of fine hurlers over the years. Why would they promote this lad from outside the town?

Would that be comparable based on the brutal Kildare-Waterford rivalry during his time over the latter, the huge number of Clare jerseys seen on local kids who may opt to play for their parents' county having recently moved in tens of thousands from Shannon town, or what Wexford have done to our hurling and that across Leinster since he took charge?

Exactly, playing Dubs is the ultimate test of a Kildare footballer at any level, be it minor/U21/senior - victories over them mean more to us than over virtually any other county. Would be appalling at any time, but given context of Dubs' current senior dominance and debate over same, it's even more of a loaded gesture.

Sorry Clane but this is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Thankfully there has been a backlash which is something to take heart from.

What's the occasion? I can understand the bank as they're probably one of the "partners"

Well can they not get some Kildare GAA legends then?! BoI involvement doesn't surprise me as this reeks of corporate bullshit... You have to hand to them, organising an event that for a good cause - and which I still encourage everyone to support - but to insult the Kildare GAA community in such fashion, fair play to them. Takes some doing.

Clane players on the 1998 Kildare AI final team next year celebrating its 20th anniversary:

John Finn
Willie McCreery
Eddie McCormack
Martin Lynch
Brian Murphy

Maybe could have given some of those boys a shout?!

Cheers for that. So it's a business function held in Clane gaa rather than a gaa event such as medal presentation etc. Puts a diffenth slant on it

I don't either. It's a business event where the main line talks about being about the local held in the local GAA club where the effect on this on GAA is anti-local while funding the team holiday of our biggest rival who have wiped us out over the last 15 years due to already having every advantage.

It made it to air on KFM this morning anyway. Just before 11am.

I feel I've channeled my inner Che Guevara. Viva La revolution

Fair enough lads, I stand corrected. Maybe someone from Clane can shed more light on it

Brophy and Flynn surely if they've made themselves available?

I'd pick Doyle as well.

HG would pick a team of Kevin Feelys.

It was only interesting when madly violent. As bad as that it, says all about the sport. As do the venues this year.

Fuck I hope not, nonsense of an event that left us without Cribben and Doyle for months when last played.

Surely that's a risk for the players to weigh up not supporters?

Id say the free trip down under for a few weeks all in is a major pull in fairness..

Not as much gloss when held in Ireland - Couldn't begrudge lads wanting to go in fairness. You would imagine a few of our lads are on the radar particularly with the great D Earley involved

As an aside @ Tommy what did you make of the Kimmage / Luke Fitzgerald podcast.

Men against boys in terms of preparation, debate etc - That man has some inner demons but he can deliver a case and argument with the best of them.

Some very good points made on the podcast namely:

1. What constitutes cheating as opposed to gaining an edge. The two lads were fighting over whether taking performance enhancing drugs was the same level of cheating as what the dubs did at end of AI
2. Whether taking pain killers before a game was performance enhancing

Interesting stuff. To call it a debate would be insulting to Kimmage who destroyed poor Luke....

Debating Fitzgerald must be like debating a turnip. His logic was that Paul broke the rules therefore he cheated (true) but therefore shouldn't be allowed to talk about cheating and to be clear when others break the rules it isn't cheating. Maybe his mind works on a superior plane I simply cannot comprehend. As for Paul, think he gets frustrated with people's inability to be honest as he tends to be always, and gets frustrated with the level of stupidity out there, and that is given time, space and money more and more in his industry.

My take would be that intentionally breaking the rules is cheating, therefore every player cheats, in fact we all do as it's human nature in every walk of life. Point of type of rules and enforcement of them is to limit that cheating, like free-throws in basketball. Thus found Kieran Shannon's black ball argument interesting as it would serve as a far stronger deterrent.

To stand up for Luke, he did highlight the annoyance previously of the "foreigner" who becomes Irish resident. But apart from that there hasn't been much of note or interest. The constant fawning and lack of proper journalism from ex pros who fill column inches with waffle and non event stories must be galling for those who do it independently.

In terms of the cheating argument, if Kildare were 1 point up in injury time in an All Ireland, I would want every single one of them to be pulling/dragging/kicking etc to get over the line so wouldn't use it as a stick to beat Dublin with.

However, in saying that the punishment doesn't fit the crime in many cases and this is more the issue.

Cynical dragging down of an opponent in the closing stages should result in a close in free and concession of possession afterwards like in basketball. That would eliminate the practice immediately. The black card is useless in this regard.
