| id say it was there. hopefully dermot gets back but heard it unlikely.if he does make it it would be better to start him than bringing him on incase he got injured. | |

| It seems like a bit of a nonsense article.
The quotes come from a "spokesperson" after all. It seems to be the hack's interpretation of a few loose quotes rather than anything concrete.

| I don't think Dermot should start if there is a chance he will aggravate the injury, Trust the lads that did the job the last day but if it looks like the game is going away from us bring him in, If not required leave him off and give him every chance to be ready for the final | |

| I don't think you can underestimate the impact on the Down players seeing Dermot lining out considering their own talisman looks like he is almost certainly done for. | |

100% agree with that. And also for the boost to our own lads knowing we have our very own superhero playing

... and what good would this be to anyone. If he can only last 15 minutes he should not be starting. After 15 minutes the game has well and truely warmed. Starting a man (even if he is a legend) and subbing after 15 minutes is a ridiculous idea - it wastes a substitute, a new man comes in and has to get to the pace of the game, it gives the opposition and fans a lift seeing a legend like Earley being subbed - I can see no logic to this at all. This is an All Ireland Semi final - there can be no passengers - if Earley is not fit, he should not be invloved period. We MUST trust the panel and have faith in the other palyers - we have able replacements that can lead to us to the 19-09-2010. - Quote :

JME - surely that works in reverse when they see him being subbed early?

| Exactly flourman, as I said in a post or two above, the impact seeing him start for all Kildare would be huge but the opposite is also true. What if we make a poor start and it's obvious Dermot is struggling, imagine the boost that Down would get on and off the pitch seeing the great man walking off.
It's a fine line but I 100% trust Geezer's decision.

| I do too JME: Lessons must be learnt from 1998, how many walking wounded did we have against Galway that fatal day - at this stage in the championship we can not afford the luxary of any passengers.
As I have said before we have a panel of 20-24 excellant footballers (a luxary we did not have in 1998) we must have faith in them.

| I think you would have to start Dermot......as has been said previously, he has been operating on one leg for the summer......Has everyone forgot, that he came on as a sub against Louth....when he had overall little influence in the game??? | |

Lads - a bit of reality - he has done two nights of running... he was playing with one cruciate ligament injury and he's done the other cruciate in the same knee... he will not be in ANY condition to start this game. It's not even a decision to be made. The only way Dermot will see action is if we are four or five points down with 10-15 minutes to go and it's a last throw of the dice.

| Surely if we are going to paly Dermot at any stage we need to start him....if you bring him on and he collapses again then we are wasting 2 subs rather than one if we start him??? | |
