But sure it's NOT a feeder team anymore. It's a junior team. It was a feeder team when it was a second team. Talking to lads invovled with the panel No one really knows what it is. There are lads training with the panel that are ineligible for example from senior clubs ect. There are lads eligible training with the seniors who aren't playing with the juniors. Lads are coming and going from the panel. Its a strange one because despite having lads ineligible training and naming a panel of 30+ lads for matches they still struggle for numbers in training. |

| As I said earlier in the thread I feared that this comp would not be taken seriously as Geezer still wanted this team to act as the feeder. | |

| 0-11 to 1-0 at halftime,(kilkenny goal from penalty), 0-18 to 1- 02 full time, unfortunately Kilkenny were way off the pace to make any sort of a test, I thought Barker was the standout player for kildare, with colin o'shea from Milltown also doing well, and Cathal mcNally and young Flynn both from JTB the liveliest forwards. Dermot played at full forward for about 50 mins and kicked a couple of points and a few wides | |

| Possibly the worse game of football I've ever witnessed.
The GAA are completely absorbed in rules & trying to prevent SJ from playing football and are neglecting the grass roots of the organisation. The state of Gaelic Football in Kilkenny is absolutely shameful.
There is not many club teams in Kildare that would lose to Kilkenny, including junior clubs. It was farscical at times.
In saying that Kildare done what they had to do but realistically there is nothing from that panel that will add to the senior side. |

| Bit of a stretch to link Kilkenny's lack of interest in football with the SJ transfer. In fairness what are the GAA meant to do? Make them like football? | |

| It's an interesting point all right, just saying I don't see what it has to do with Johnston. My own viewpoint on that interesting point is that there's nothing the GAA can do to promote football in Kilkenny. That's up to Kilkenny people and they obviously don't have much interest. Maybe I'm ignorant but it seems to me lads are being sensitive. I'm just disagreeing, it's not personal.
PS What do you mean by 'bit harsh calling me a wanker' Fionn? Am I missing something?

PS What do you mean by 'bit harsh calling me a wanker' Fionn? Am I missing something? I'm joking ohtoohtobe. You obviously didn't call me a wanker. Similarly I dont think I linked Kilkenny's lack of interest to the SJ transfer saga. I linked the GAA missing out on whats important and thats actually the people playing the games they foster. They are setting up committees to review the game, amending rules, introducing rules but yet Kilkenny's first team was beaten by a Kildare Junior side by 13 points, failing to score from play and managing 3 scores in total. You'd have to wonder what is being done for the development of Gaelic Football in Kilkenny. Where is the moneys being set aside for Gaelic Football in Kilkenny actually going? There were lads playing football for Kilkenny yesterday and they lacked the most basic of skills. I suppose they are well use to it by now, but I genuinely felt embarrassed for them and it was uncomfortable viewing , for me anyways. |

| there are very few 'genuine' football people in kilkenny, they are miles behind hurling soccer and rugby down there with minute interest from all involved.
i dont get this perception from people that the GAA have to step in to promote football and get kilkenny competitive....why waste money pissing into the wind when the easiest thing to do would be to just disband the Inter County footballers altogether. it has happened to Cavan and Monaghan in hurling, granted with a bit of a fuss initially but nobody gives a shite now a few months down the line.
This is the same county that only 14 lads or something turned up for their Leinster U21 championship against Louth, a team that went on to contest the final if im not mistaken. if lads dont want to play and get embarrassed then off with them.
Let them play their club games and completely pull out of all Inter County competitions, they are going nowhere fast.

| I work with a guy that played minor for Kilkenny in both hurling and football. After the games the footballers went home, the hurlers were taken down to Langtons for a good feed of steak and chips. Pretty soon it became clear that the choice was not between hurling and football but between football and food. Didnt take him long to cop on which code to continue! The bottom line is they love hurling in Kilkenny and nothing gets in the way of that. | |

| Lads to be fair to Kilkenny there is a lot of football played in the county, especially at underage. Most, if not all schools field a football team as well as a hurling team and quite a lot of clubs are also dual clubs.
There's probably a few counties out there doing less for hurling than Kilkenny are doing for football. A few counties didn't field under 21 hurling teams last year, I don't think Leitrim even fielded a senior team in the league this year.
The problem they face is the fact that their footballers are at a level on their own. Even in division four they were getting well beaten each week.
Whereas in hurling there'd be a few counties at the same levels, with different competitions run for different tiers - Nicky Rackard and Christy Ring cups, both of which are balanced and competitive.
Nobody seems to be able to come up with a solution for it. Whether or not the Kilkenny board themselves actually want to be helped is another thing. Maybe the cost is too much, but hurling is always going to be the preference down there, and because of that the hurlers will always be looked after better - trips away, match prep and training equipment.
Maybe they should do things a bit like Cavan. Disband the senior football team and focus on underage, let minor and under 21 teams play in the Carlow and Tipp leagues and build from there.
Regarding the match last night there's not much to say, great to see Dermot kick a few points, hard to know just yet if he's being lined up to play as an impact sub / full forward, who'll come on for O'Connor late on in matches or it's just more precautionary, just being eased back into things. Barker and Flynn both looked lively, nice movement off the ball, but it was the type of match where management weren't exactly going to learn anything they didn't already know.

| I'd say the lads last night to one look at what was facing them and just went through the motions. None of them were going to risk a bad injury. If they got out of Neutral I'd be surprised. Last night was a nothing game a waste of everybody's time and energy. | |
