I thought Darren Lawlor from Athy might have been worth a try after playing well in the club championship. Is Aaron O'Neill injured?
Good to see Aaron Masterson, Ben McCormack, Matty Byrne, Eanna O'Connor, Luke Flynn and Mark Dempsey back. Looks strong enough.

That panel doesn’t inspire confidence. I find it interesting how Kildare squads are mainly made up of senior club players. Only a few Intermediate players and never any Junior players. People are talking about Lawlor and that he should be included but they never said that while he was playing for Rheban but now he’s playing for Athy they now talk about him. Just goes to show if you play for a Junior club you have no chance of playing County football.

That is very true. Kildare don’t seem to look at junior clubs for players. Peter Kelly was an all star though while still playing junior club. If you look at other counties, panels normally have players from all grades. Some of the best players can come from junior clubs. Declan O Sullivan from Kerry springs to mind although the best junior players there can represent their districts in the senior co championship which helps those players progress through the ranks.

I find it disgraceful that Kildare could be permitted to play Down today while at the same time we can't even finish out the hurling and football championships here.

Croke Park stopped the games not the county boards although it probably suited them that way.

Just looking at the table, if we lose on Sunday against Cavan and Clare get a walkover from Fermanagh we will be in serious trouble.
Laois also due to play Fermanagh, worst again because Laois were one of the teams that we beat and we would have a had better 'head to head' record if we do finished level with them.

Yep.... I'm very worried about this, could be in big trouble in the blink of an eye

Is it just me or does the panel look a bit light in the full back line?
Mick OGrady is a cert in there, along with most likely Mark Dempsey..
For me after that it looks like your robbing Peter to pay Paul,
We've seen Hyland at 3 previously but I feel he's better elsewhere. Don't know if Shea Ryan would be classed an intercounty full back either?
I know L.Flynn operates at 3 for JTB occasionally but don't think he could at this level,
Bateman is a full back but not up to it either IMO,
Darragh Malone is likely in there as a corner back which is ludicrous,
After that I don't see anyone else who could operate between 2-4.

There’s no way Clare will get a walkover against Fermanagh. They’ll change the fixture date before that.

Been light there for the past few years. Even lighter now Peter Kelly has retired and David Hyland playing in halfback line. Darragh Malone looked lost there versus Roscommon, I havent seen much of him but I doubt he is intercounty standard. Eoin Doyle started there v Laois and thankfully Mark Dempsey is back so you could go Dempsey, OGrady and Doyle with maybe David Hyland as cover in emergency.

We are light in the backs alright. Jason Gibbons should be in the squad. Good defender. Ruadhan O’Giollain and Darren Lawlor should also be in the squad.

. Ruadhan played very few games for maynooth in club championship this year
Gibbons opt out at start of year
Lawlor could brought in January. Remember Kildare season could over on 8 November
Barrett dropped Jimmy hyland and jack Robinson ran rings around Barrett in club championship

Jaysus lads I wouldn't see Doyle as an option there at all,
In fairness to Malone, chap is a good club footballer, but a forward.
Will have no hope of playing but he has the aptitude to train all the time,
Its a pity some really talented guys don't have the commitment to give it a lash, OToole from Monasterevan springs to mind just when mentioning Hyland and Robinson giving Barrett a run around, hes kept tabs on both numerous times,

The reports coming out of Roscommon aren't much better in all honestly.
Two county teams playing in a neutral venue ???
Interesting to see what the 'money men' in Croke Park have to say about this, if anything.

What's the story with Liam Healy? He was very impressive in the latter stages of the championship. Lawler from Athy should be in there too.
You'd have to wonder if JOC even attended or watched any of these games going by that squad selection.
Wouldn't be at all confident of beating Cavan on Sunday, very light at the back.
