Well we cant look any further than 1st round v Carlow or Ofdaly, our recent history tells us that, Offaly seem to be making steady progress under Maughan and I fancy them fo beat Carlow, likewise Meath cannot take Wicklow or Wexford for granted. IF Kildare and Meath come through that, maybe Meath would be slight favourites but I think we have the better players and if we get our performances right I would fancy us

It’ll be a predictable championship for Kildare. Well beaten by Meath in the semi final. Same old story.
Still don't get this fawning over Meath?, what is this based on? they're hardly pulling up any trees themselves after a very unconvincing year in division 1, I would give us at least a 50/50 chance against them

It is going to be 50/50 in most games unless there is a serious gap in quality. Once we get it right next weekend then I do think we are more than able for Meath.

I might have wrongly over hyped the Meath performance v Monaghan, when One looks at Monaghan v Cavan Yesterday.. Especially the Meath midfield pairing, who looked really good v Monaghan.. but in truth the Monaghan Midfield were non existent Yesterday.. hope I'm making sense.

In fairness Niall Kearns has scarcely kicked a ball in 2 years and Monaghan's midfield has struggled a bit since then.
Offaly and Carlow was a remarkably open game. Offaly the better team, Carlow went man-to-man and were wide open but if Paul Broderick had scored the penalty then suspect Carlow might have have gone on to win when Offaly picked up a black card. Offaly midfield wasn't great to start off with but both starting midfielders were taken off injured as well as their tallest half-forward. It looked like a top of the table match in division 4. I'm not saying Offaly couldn't beat us but there's about 10 different things that would need to go right for them/wrong for us in the space of a week for this to happen. Bad weather could make it a bit of a lottery but still. Just don't think they can win enough ball against us. Carlow 2 years ago had a lot of big men around the field. Offaly simply don't.

If we lose to offaly it will be just as bad as the loss to carlow. I wonder will there be a call for Jack's head like there was for our previous manager

Good to see a bit of confidence on here but remember in recent years we lost to Westmeath, Carlow and should have lost to Longford. Apart from 2017 we have been very average in the early rounds of the championship. If we could replicate the Cavan performance we should win easily but I would love to see us become a lot more ruthless and hammer a few teams. It would be good for their morale to have a few big wins.

Another good result for Wicklow and Davy Burke. I was chatting with one of the Wicklow Players whose been around the Panel for a good few Years, and he's been really impressed with Davy.

As a Kildare Supporter how can we say that Kildare will win on Sunday going by the last few years in championship we cant take any team for granted. Saying that I do expect us to win and going by the last couple of games I think we will have to much for Offaly.

Yes I am. And the arrogance of our fans always baffles me. This Offaly game is no gimme but we talk like we’re gonna do a number on them when history shows we bottle a lot of these games.

In fairness Eric it is 2006 since Offaly beat us which is an awful long time ago.

You appear to have much more faith in Meath, where is this coming from?, I am very aware of Kildare's shortcomings, there are many areas needing improvement, but I don't accept we are that different to Meath, and should we meet them I would be hopeful of beating them, however you're right about not looking too far ahead, Offaly won't make life easy for us.

The difference between Kildare and Meath is that Meath have been a lot more successful than we have and have a better tradition of winning than we have, particularly in the last 50 odd years. When Meath are going well, the top teams fear them. When Kildare are going well, the top teams lick their lips playing us.
I agree with Cantona about the baffling over confidence of Kildare supporters in general (and players by the way!), it drives me mad and I believe its part of an inferiority complex or something. However, I don't think it was on display in the comments above, which were mostly well balanced and fair.

Think I'd take playing Offaly in Portlaoise, than having to go to Aughrim on a dirty November Day.

There's something so dreary about Aughrim in November! Well said Seamy!
