Incredible stat - our football team is literally the only one in the country outside of Dublin to have everyone based in their own county. Not an advantage to be sniffed at considering what the likes of Mayo have to deal with.

Courtney with Athlone.

J Hyland with Maynooth I think in addition to those mentioned earlier but he’s out for 3 or 4 weeks.

Thanks Rex. No great surprises. Thought Brian McLoughlin might have made it but struggled against Louth.

Will be a very familiar team v Dubs I'd say.

Yeah, shaping up to be a familiar team v Dubs alright. Have a feeling he might throw Mikey Kelly in although it could be a risky enough manoeuvre.

Maybe we should try Steven Poacher's "triple transition threat" that everyone's taking the mick out of on social media! lol!

Re Jimmy Hyland, my understanding is that unless you play in a championship game for the seniors, you can play U20.

Am I wrong?

We have a savage U20 team this year and I think we should let him play for them tbh. Think we have plenty of good forward options without rushing him in.

Re u20, I think if you make a senior championship match day squad you can't play u20.

Right.. I thought you had to play, but maybe it is if you just make the squad. Anyway, I suppose if he's in, he's in but would be a shame to lose him from the U20s.

Disappointing fixture to start off the league. Dublin vs Kerry or Mayo vs Dublin in Castlebar would have been a great way to kick start the league. Kildare will lay down and will be easily beaten by 10+ points in this one.

It's a free shot at them. I'd rather play them now than in a month when the games get more important. I'll find it hard to get excited about Saturday. I wont  be going because 1. I hate Croke Park and 2. I hate Croke Park even more in the winter.
Dublin never send out an under cooked team. I hope Cian has them just that bit fitter for this time of year and we at least try and make a game of it. If we can make a game of it it will do wonders, I won't even contemplate a win.

As for the league in general its my favourite competition. I will be looking forward to the rest of our games. It would be a sterling achievement to stay up and that must be our goal. It would also be nice to beat Galway not for any other reason  other than we keep losing to them and you get sick of that quite quickly.

It will be interesting to see the team for the weekend.  I expect it won't differ to much from the Leinster final, hopefully we can keep the stupid goals down to a minimum.

Need to take any goal chances we get. We let 2 easy chances slip by in the Leinster final.
Agree its hard to get excited about playing in Croke Park and particularly against Dublin. We have 4 home matches and we need to turn up in big numbers to give them support for those. Hard to see us getting anything in Kerry or Donegal.

Have to say one of the things I admire most about Jim Gavin is his refusal to allow standards to drop. Obviously he has an embarrassment of riches in his squad, but even still, the excuses some managers come out with are truly priceless.

Anyway, no matter what team Dublin put out, you can expect a strong performance. They'll be without Jack McCaffrey and Con O'Callaghan for a start, but god knows they have plenty to step in. I am actually looking forward to it - we're going to find out pretty sharpish what level we're at. Funnily enough, the rules for beating Dubs much the same as they always were: stop them scoring goals and bang in a couple yourself.

Much easier said than done, of course. Biggest question marks in our team are over our defence – this is going to be a serious test of their credentials, they need to be ready.

As said this is surely a free hit for us. There is no way they will be up to speed and getting them on day one means we need to rattle them. By the time they settle again, they will take points off the rest.
Plus a good win in Croker is long overdue!

Lads, their third team were too good for us 12 months ago.

I've no enthusiasm or optimism for this.

I'll go, much as I hate that feckin' place in winter but I'm not expecting a miracle.

Dubs by 7 to 10 points.

Two mile house and kilcock more lads on panel than the likes of sarsfields , carbury, confey naas and other strong senior sides? Does that make sense? I dont think so
