Why didn’t Donnellan take the penalty to win? Madness letting Daniel take 1, never mind 2!

Donnellan should be taking the 45's too when Neil Flynn is not playing , very sloppy in parts tonight, hopefully Glenn will straighten that out before Man Utd come to town

Poor performance overall, Laois the slightly better team. Very experimental, it can happen. Tony Archibold did well of the starters. O'Callaghan and Sergent the best of the subs . Neil Flynn badly needed, we are at nothing if we cant kick frees from 35 yards.

Very poor. Full forward and corner forward missed four penalties. Sums up the night.

Thought the backs did ok only conceded 9 points. Forwards were abysmal. Dan Flynn could be one of the best footballers in the Country but tonight it looked like he'd never seen a football before.
We struggled big time getting into scoring positions. Half forwards offered nothing. We looked leggy and the decision making was at its worst. Some of the passing was as bad as I've seen.

We seriously need to get get our heads right. Kerry in a couple of weeks. Time to get serious.

Anyone know what the crowd limit will be against Kerry and will it be difficult to get tickets?

Very, very poor overall.

Anything positive was undone by mistakes, conceding a foul or giving the ball away needlessly moments later.

Pushing up on opposition kickouts as in previous games works well for us, we seem well drilled in it to as with Laois being forced to go long the vast majority of the time and kicking into space or to one of our own a few times too.

Apart from aiming it towards whoever's around the middle named Kevin we don't have a kickout plan of our own, too slow to make runs, nobody breaking into space etc. As soon as the ball goes dead players turn their back on Donnellan and stroll into position - somebody needs to give him a short quick option - corner or wingbacks breaking towards the sideline or something. Got turned over twice from short ones tonight and should have been punished both times.

I like the approach we're taking of leaving players up top. Dan on the edge of the small square, corner forwards on the 21 and Lawless on the 45 tonight anytime Laois broke forward and for frees as well. Forces them to leave men back so they can't push as many forward and gives us a serious threat in the final third with plenty of space to play the ball into and at worst you'd have a 4 on 4 attacking threat.

If only we could work on actually moving the ball forward quickly...

During the first half I was thinking Paul Cribbin would be dangerous in the role Lawless was playing. When he came on though he was dropping a lot deeper and it meant Dan dropping out to the 45 leaving just 2 inside.

Laois keeper was a brick shithouse, how he didn't clear man and ball for the goal is a mystery.

Penalty shootouts aren't a lottery. Can't imagine they're something that's practiced too intensely though.

In typical GAA fashion the rules around them are questionable at best. Laois should have won it 3-1 to 3-0. Only the 5 takers are allowed go again in sudden death and on top of that the ref decides to position himself in the small square.

Donnellan channeling his inner Pirlo was the only highlight of the shootout and even at that he only went the right way 2/3 times for the 10 Laois penos.

Place Neill Flynn on the 45 as the linkman and put him on 45s, move Kevin Flynn into either midfield or back to halfback, teach Dan Flynn how to handpass and come up with a kickout strategy for Donnellan. Simple enough really...

Carlow referee. He actually should have had a blue and white jersey on tonight. How many pick ups did he miss? I'd love to see the free count after the 70 minutes.
A lot of work to do to survive in Division One based on that. Who can we expect to come in for the Kerry game to improve it?

Shea Ryan and Brian McLoughlin seem to be playing well in Sigerson so I’d expect them to be in the reckoning. I also see Daragh Ryan starting for UCD and I’d imagine Paddy McDermott would be in the picture too. Eoin Doyle should be in decent shape after the club campaign.
What’s the story with Feely, Neil Flynn, Alex Beirne and Darragh Kirwan, are they all out?

I don't know about Neil Flynn but all the others are carrying injuries. I have heard that Feely is very close to a return

Poor performance last night. 1-06 isn’t going to win any game, but I have no doubt Glenn will grill them and get their heads down for Kerry on Sunday week. Archbold did well at wing back, Paddy Woodgate had a few classy moments. But overall, too many wides/balls into the keepers hands and really sloppy play throughout. I can’t remember Dan Flynn ever playing as badly as that. I thought McCormack’s kick at the end was over but it tailed off at the last second. Referee overall was awful. There was a great atmosphere for an O’Byrne Cup game. And at least we know now we have a competent penalty taker in Donnellan Smile

I didn't see it last night but looking purely at the scoreline it's a big cause for concern. It was a dry night without much wind so being held to 1-6 is pityful. From reading the above, it sounds like Dan Flynn was poor.

Unfortuanitly with Dan, you get the incredibly sublime together with the average, we've seen it for a few years now. I maintain my position that he's not the type of forward you can rely on to win leagues or championships - individual matches yes he'll win one every year and he'll always have a shout for goal of the year, but if you're looking for a Conor McManus, Gooch Cooper or a Johnny Doyle then Dan ain't the man I'm afraid.

Still a hugely important player for us BTW and I'm not even knocking him, he just needs to be used in the right way by management

I was really dissapointed with the performance last night. Cant understand how we can expect to contest with Kerry in 10 days if we cant beat a poor Laois team.

Donnelan was very very Rusty in goals . Of our three obc games i felt his performance was the worst of the three keepers.

Joyce isnt a full back. Impressed me at 6 for towers in the championship but he seems to have bulked up massively and slowed down.

No settled full back line. Badly need to send an sos out for Doyle ahead of Kerry game.

Dan Flynn had an off day but that's his game. He worked far harder than i have seen him work before. He is chasing down ball when we are pressing which ive not seen him do much of before. Made some good tackles.

Jimmy was awful quiet.

Did Glenn train hard the night before or what was the reason for them being so lethargic?

With Galvin coming in as a forwards coach, what are the roles of Doyle and Early. Rainbow was taking a lot of the pre game coaching.

Surely Johnny Doyle knows how a forward should play. Hope this doesn't become a case of too many cooks.

Cheers, maybe he could add a bit of bite to the team. We are way behind on let's call it the "spoiling" aspects of a game.
